I was actually referred to Gwynn's by a retail merchant I intended to do with business while on vacation in Charleston only to learn they didn't have their own brick and mortar location when I arrived. I know they have a number of retailers within their channel so to call out Gwynn's specifically must be indicative of something so I took the drive to neighboring Mt. Pleasant.
At every touch point: Women's clothing, Women's shoes, and beauty & cosmetics, I encountered warm, friendly sales associates representing mostly brand lines that are already familiar to me as well as a few new ones I'd like to become familiar with. But the absolute standout of my visit to Gwynn's by far was Shaina H. Shaina's well poised, yet down to earth style drew me in immediately. She took the time to explain the benefits of being a virtual customer (I live out of state) and allowed me to dabble in what the customer experience would be on the occasions I'd be vacationing and could therefore shop in-store. Shaina's gift is that she takes the time to get to know the customer as an individual verses calculating sales in a preemptive or forceful manner. I left feeling as if I'd gained a new good friend. She even bookmarked restaurant recommendations and helped me get oriented with the area.
Shaina, you can count me in on your book of business, from here forward! I couldn't help but tell others I encountered on my vacation that they should stop by Gwynn's and shop with you! I'm an awful packer so at least I know if I forget to pack something for vacation, I can come by and visit with you to get all the beautiful wears that...
Read moreGwynn’s is not an appealing place to shop. It’s also filthy, badly merchandised in both product and presentation, and is like shopping in a parking lot. They can’t figure out who their consumer is anymore and it’s as if they’ve no real idea what grown up Charleston events are like or what kind of person truly shops at this level in this town.
Aesthetically, the place is like half TJ Maxx, half unfinished warehouse (don’t look up!). Like no one wanted to invest in the quality of the experience for the shopper. At this level, we expect a beautiful environment in which to buy beautiful clothing. Like Saks in any location.
The buyer doubled down on Bronx and Banco like we’re going to nightclubs in Jersey and then didn’t get sizes in Sara Roka. Instead of figuring out how to translate Southern trends into RTW - they went whole hog into bare mid drifts and back dressing. Funny, I’ve never seen a respectable woman of means in this town dressed in anything even remotely similar. What the 40 year old person of means wears has been completely ignored or they buyer doesn’t know this customer and is buying for a different market, perhaps in LA, or Miami. But the “know your customer” thing is of no interest here.
I go to NY or Atlanta or order online from Saks/Neiman/Bergdorf’s and I don’t waste my time on Gwynn’s. Even a visit to their social media indicates that Gwynns is not a place for elegance, real luxury, or tastefulness. It’s just a hot...
Read moreI first met Amanda Faucci when I had only lived in Mt Pleasant for 6 months. She walked up to me in beautiful Gwynns and offered to help me. I was looking for a dress to wear to my son’s rehearsal dinner. Within minutes, Amanda and I were walking the floor, pulling things to try. She knew the floor backwards and forwards. She introduced me to adorable Weezie the Store Buyer and Manager. I immediately felt comfortable and welcome. Her knowledge of the merchandise, her incredible personal style and flair, her exuberant and fun personality made the entire time I was in the store such a positive one! She brought me pretty dress after pretty dress to try. She knew the fit of each piece and only showed me dresses that were perfect for me. And I’m 5 feet tall! ( No small task.) I bought the cutest dress and everyone at the wedding loved it.
I have been back to the store often and will only shop with Amanda. She’s never pushy. She’s always honest. She will gently tell you something does not work. So when she loves something on me, I buy it!
Amanda is a true professional, knows and understands fashion and everyone she works with obviously loves her. I have a small wardrobe consulting and closet business and it is rare to come across someone like Amanda. I trust her with dressing me AND seek her advice wardrobing any of my clients that live in and out of town. I always leave looking forward to going back to Gwynn’s. And that’s because of...
