Long story short, my friend and I got the Pretty Woman treatment yesterday evening. I've always liked this store and found some great items here so I was excited to learn my good friend had never been there. We went together yesterday and spent a good time browsing, was asked a few times if we needed anything, which was nice. So we head to the dressing rooms where we were half greeted by an older woman. She informed us that my friend could only take 6 items in at a time. Fine, that's standard. She heads in with the first 6 and the woman hung the rest up. When friend is done she hands me one item to trade for something else. I turn, item in hand, and give it to the older woman. The woman holds the two remaining items out to me as if she's offering both (it would make sense because it's only two more and we're all standing within four feet of each other, nothing would even have a chance of getting stolen) so I reach out to take them. As soon as my fingers touch the second hanger she snatches them back from me and gives me a little lesson on basic math. Thank you, Susan, I had forgotten how to add and subtract. Then she proceeds to barge into my friends dressing room (with friend still in there) and count every thing individually, making sure us hooligans aren't up to no good and then informs me "The more we give her, the more she'll give us" in a very unpleasant tone. I was in a black out rage but decided to sit down and keep my mouth shut for the benefit of my friend. Here's the thing though, I'm not Julia Roberts and this isn't a boutique on Rodeo Drive. I'm a fairly frequent (no longer) customer and this is a second hand store in South Carolina. Tldr, Susan has a bad attitude and I won't be returning to this location. Susan isn't her name, she just has Susan/Debra/Tammy...
Read moreI purchased several items here yesterday, over $75 worth in which I received a 20% discount. Upon return home I noticed a theft device was left attached to a blouse. I returned to the store less than an hour later (THANKFULLY with my cash receipt that I had already crumbled up and disposed of) in what I thought would be a simple removal by staff and apology for my inconvenience. The nice mature woman who processed my transaction was still there, however the young long haired girl at the front immediately took over (Lord help the store if she is the manager). She proceeded to scrutinize the receipt, pulled up the transaction on the cash register and made me feel like I was a criminal! As she discussed the no return policy with the other worker who apparently keyed in my discount in the system incorrectly, I explained that I didn’t want to return the shirt (because that’s their policy if you spend over $75 and receive the discount.) I simply requested the security tag device be removed! She blatantly made direct eye contact and RUDELY responded to me “I KNOW THAT!” From that point forward I didn’t say a word, waited for her to figure out that I had paid for the blouse, and then she removed the device and didn’t say a word or apologize for my having to return to the store. All I can say is that I highly recommend Uptown Cheapskate provide customer service seminars to their staff in supervisory roles because this rude, degrading experience cost you a...
Read moreI rarely post negative comments but I am beyond disappointed with this experience. I brought 3 bags of clothes many unworn, and a Rubbermaid container of new shoes. I asked are you still buying clothes, they said yes. I said shoes too, they said “definitely”. They also said anything they wouldn’t buy could be donated. I said as long as it is to people in need and not a random goodwill. I left the items because there was too much for them to check on the spot. When I came back they gave me $9 for 2 items and said the rest was “already donated to goodwill” I wasn’t expecting much but this was a total scam. Not only do I not believe they actually donated anything, they even lied about where it would go if they did. I have shopped here a bunch but now realize that I am probably buying items that were stolen from other people that were also lied to. I will never sell here again and more importantly will not shop here either. To top it all off they were rude when I was confused and the manager that supposedly made the decision was no longer there. It is the first time I tried this and should have just found somewhere to donate them myself. I will find a church or way to give this stuff to people who need it...
