If you need a new screen or battery for your mobile device - Mobile R can handle it. Ditto if you need a new keyboard or battery for your laptop. Software is not their strength and for me it was a significant disappointment. While porting my life over from my HP laptop to a new MacBookPro 15" MobileR lost emails going back to 2008 - personal and important emails - not recoverable (I signed into my Yahoo/ATT account immediately to search the server to try to recover the emails but they had apparently been erased - does anyone at MobileR have an explanation?). MobileR deleted Apple App's,(didn't ask them to do that) and ported over Microsoft Office app's yet they didn't port over photo's and a bunch of other things to the new laptop (the folks at Apple had to airdrop photo's that were sitting on my iPhone that had been synched up to my HP laptop - stuff that should have been transferred over to the MacBook). I had initially been told by MobileR that porting over from one machine to another was easy, a no brainer (that's an understatement) but then when emails started disappearing from my email folders I was told by one of the owners; hey, dude, I don't understand what's going on - take it to Apple. I was given a reason that was incomprehensible and when I took the machine to Apple they were perplexed with the explanation as well (I was told that Outlook and IMAP accounts are problematic yet I've never had this issue before on any of my other laptops - ATT and Gmail = IMAP). It would seem that the folks at MobileR are not as competent as they would like customers to think. Well, I did take the MackBook to Apple (and by the way if you buy a new MacBook Pro Apple will port your life over from the old machine to the new laptop AT NO CHARGE) and it took us (literally) 4 1/2 hours over 3 Genius Bar sessions to put the machine back together. There is a $30 charge for each of the Apple apps that were deleted (their version of word, excel, powerpoint) but after searching the hard drive to see if they were "hidden" Apple graciously reinstalled them at no cost. Lot's of work and aggravation not to mention the emails going back to 2008 that are lost forever.
If you do decide to have them do work on your device be aware that timing is another issue. Based on my experience it is unlikely that your device will be returned when promised (hey dude, I am really slammed - backed up). One of the owners rarely waltzes into the store before 11:30 - no wonder he's slammed) and you should be prepared to have to return your device for further work - (if it's not something simple like a screen replacement) - software issues are rarely resolved/completed the first time - or at all - I know of two other people who have had issues. Time management skills are a real problem. I had been in IT software and mainframe hardware sales to Fortune 1000 companies for over 20 years and had never experienced ineptitude on this level. Michael and Kennedy are nice guys but based on my experience I would not...
Read moreI've been meaning to leave a 5-Star review for Michael at MobileR for the last few months (sorry for my delay, Michael). By way of brief background, in late February 2022, I had an unfortunate "coffee v. MacBook" incident. This wasn't any minor spill, either, and I've always been extremely careful about liquids near electronics.
This particular morning, my laptop was on the end table by our couch, and I'd just turned it on. I poured a cup of coffee into a six-year-old ceramic coffee mug and, as I walked back toward the couch, I paused, standing while I watched the weather on the news. I was above the laptop by a foot or so when all of a sudden, the mug broke from its handle and forcibly smashed onto the keyboard! Roughy 16 oz. of hot coffee, sticky vanilla creamer, and Splenda hit it hard, squarely in the middle, and I immediately knew it spelled disaster. I was still holding the handle. It was like some hellspawn ascended from depths below and yanked it right from my hand. I was overcome with fear because, like most people, there's so much vital info on our computers and I was in full-blown panic mode.
My wife knew of MobileR, so I reached out right away. I was highly impressed with Michael's prompt response, empathy for my dilemma, and ability to schedule me that day. I brought it to him and he remembered to story without me having to go into detail, and seemed genuinely concerned. I knew he was an honest broker, and he leveled with me that it may not be salvageable, and simultaneously assured me that he'd do all he could. The next day he called with the bad news that I had two alternatives: 1). either shell out $300-$400 toward a fix, but no guarantees (totally understandable); or 2). buy a new laptop.
I hated to do it, but I chose the latter and bit the bullet. But here's the thing...Michael's empathy, honesty, and candor won me over, and those attributes are rare in business these days. I trust him, and if I ever have another issue with an Apple product, he'll be the person to whom I reach out. Thank...
Read moreMobileR was suggested to me by a friend when I encountered a cracked LCD on an iPad and I thought it was totaled. My buddy told me to check out MobileR and see if I couldn't get an affordable fix for the LCD display, they were right around the corner in Shelmore Village so I dropped by, and I'm glad I did. The owner, personally assisted me with my broken screen and I was truly astonished at the customer service I was provided with. This is a fantastic local business, a great addition to Mt Pleasant and Charleston in general for that matter. The staff is knowledgeable, efficient, and affordable. MobileR also helped me with an iPhone 5s that had water damage and saved me a lot of money, it was much cheaper than even the insurance claim for the replacement of the phone. I have referred at least 3 friends for iPad and iPhone repairs, and my wife's company (landscaping) now exclusively uses them for repair of their entire line of work phones. I would recommend MobileR to anyone in need of mobile repair, cracked screens, or water damage to any number of devices. ...
