Calico Creations — Local services in Mount Vernon

LOVE THIS SHOP! So much beautiful fabric! So many patters! Gorgeous quilt inspiration on the walls! (Not sure if they were only shop samples or if any were for sale.) Little bits of felted wool for sale! And don’t miss the very back little room place where they have rolls of fat quarters in baskets—buying those is so fun!

My experience from their cutting from the bolts was a B-. They could have been more careful to be straight and accurate. Staff mostly nice. No community board for notices. If they were supporting other makers’ classes or had offerings of that sort, I saw no indication in the shop and never had time to visit the website.

The next door area is a quilting room, but I didn’t know what the rules were for being able to go in. Was everyone welcome? Was it private? Did they have sew-in times for the general public?

Anyway, they got a lot of my money and they will surely get more when I’m back in Mount Vernon...

This shop is wonderful! I live across the nation from them and they posted in a group I’m part of on a sale they were having. So, I ordered a decent amount of fabric because I was excited about the amazing price! Them being across the nation, I wasn’t expecting the fabric to show up immediately but realized 12-14 days later it still hadn’t arrived. I called their shop and left a message COMPLETELY FORGETTING about the drastic time difference. The shop wasn’t due to be open for hours but I still got a prompt response with tracking with very little wait. The post office had been the issue but the good service doesn’t stop there! I’ve now had my fabric and package for about a week and everything came as expected. Well, the shop reached out AGAIN and asked if I had received it! I visited this lovely store whilst on holiday in the States. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. When the customer assistant asked if I had visited before and realised that I was traveling from the UK she offered me a tour of the store. She showed me the different sections of fabrics and the discounted ranges - even those not immediately on display. The store has a good variety of designers from Kaffe Fasset to Tilda and a whole host of others!! They had a very lovely selection of Christmas fabrics and not all of them the traditional colourways. The shop assistant was friendly and welcoming but not pushy in anyway. Probably the best service I have had in any quilt store.
