Wow. Auggie's. Quite a disappointment.
We drove past Auggie's twice before we finally spotted it. There is no exterior signage, the shop is on the second floor, and it's presence is only discernable from the gaming posters that plaster the windows.
The first thing I noticed was the stale smell of damp and recirculated air. In all fairness, it must be difficult to air out the space. But they could use an air scrubber; or at least a dehumidifier.
We were greeted within a couple of minutes of entering the shop, which was nice. To be honest I was not expecting to be acknowledged at all. Thus the second star.
The space is devoted to multiple tables obviously used for Magic game play. Everything else is exiled to the periphery and would be next to impossible to get to during a tournament.
There were a few dozen sad, old, faded board games on offer. Some shelves held a very small collection of open games. I assume this was a game library. I have no idea if they were free to play or if you had to rent them.
The RPG section seemed limited to maybe half a dozen D&D books (at least, that's all I saw).
Three rooms led off the main room, they were ostensibly an additional play space, a break room and a store room. I was puzzled by the Magic cards strewn across the store room floor. It seemed a negligent way to deal with stock. Especially since Magic appears to be Auggie's main product line, with a modest number of singles in cases, Magic in boxes, and some collecting supplies.
If you are not into Magic the Gathering, give this shop a miss. I...
Read moreBeen looking for a new FLGS in the area and stumbled upon Auggie's games hoping that it could be a new regular destination. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
When we arrived the store seemed stark and starved for merchandise that was not Magic the gathering or other TCGs. About 80% of the store is dedicated to tables which makes moving through the store feel awkward and uncomfortable. The lighting was dark and most of the walls were bare or had old and sad decorations. The staff was mostly friendly which is why I gave it a second star.
I noticed a few boardgames stuffed into the corner but with no way to see them. The meager selection told me that this place was a card game store first and hardly anything else. I'm sure if I asked the staff they would have been helpful but by then we realized that quickly wanted to leave because the environment felt dirty, messy, and unkept.
If you are someone who loves card games I'm sure that this would be a fine place for a quick visit if you are in...
Read moreFirst, a note, it is on the upper floor of the building it is in and has no external signage. Only some gaming posters hint that there is a shop there. If you do not want to take the stairs up to you will have to ride up in an elevator that will make you think you are in a horror movie.
The store itself is a sea of event tables with a small selection of board games, a positively tiny selection of D&D books (the only RPGs I saw) but a lot of Magic: the Gathering singles. The staff was friendly enough but obviously focused on Magic.
So, if you need a place to play Magic, Auggie's can provide that. For anything else, you may wish to...
