We had a very bad experience here today. First, for context, my family and I were crossing the parking lot and almost got run down by a really aggressive driver. We entered the store and after grabbing a cart and a few items, I was still shaking. We decided to sit down on one of the sofas just to catch our breath.
An employee came by and in the friendliest voice youâve ever heard, asked âHow are you enjoying that couch?â We genuinely thought she was being sincere. I responded with something like, âItâs very niceâfirm but comfortable.â She said âYes, itâs really nice isnât it?â OkâŚnow Iâm starting to feel a little suspiciousâŚwhy is she asking again? But I calmly reply âYup, nice and comfy.â She continues walking toward the employee break room as she then abruptly shifts her tone and barks at my daughter, âHey, how about you take your feet off the couch?â And just continues to walk away.
It was like being sucker punched. We were too shocked to say anything. But it felt appropriate to leave my cart at that point and just exit the store.
Itâs a floor sample, ffs. My kidsâ shoes werenât caked in filth. We were genuinely still recovering from almost being collectively hit by a car.
It was insensitive but worst of all, the employee was white and my daughter and my husband are Asian, but constantly get mistaken for being Hispanic. So itâs impossible to think this was not racially motivatedâyou know, along the lines of âget your dirty Mexican feet off my stuffâ kind of vibe.
Itâs also impossible to explain how disgusted I am and how hurtful it was to experience this. I have nothing else to add. This is becoming more and more common here, and because itâs micro-aggressions, itâs almost impossible to fight.
Obviously we wonât continue shopping here. Cost Plus used to be a fun shopping experience for us, but now it just feels...
Read moreWe had a very bad experience at this location today. I took my teenage daughter and four of her friends shopping at World Market. These are theater and choir kids; the most respectful, well-behaved teenagers imaginable. We made a loop of the store, and as we got near the checkout, an employee (an elderly gray-haired guy) snapped his fingers at us like he was summoning a waiter. When we stopped taking and looked up, he said, âYou know you kids shouldnât come into a store and throw pillows on the floor, right?â We were confused, and I actually thought he was joking. I said, âNot these kids. These kids have not thrown any pillows on the floor. Iâve been with them the whole time.â He then said, âThe camera footage doesnât lie!â So I repeated, âNot these kids. You must have the wrong group of kids.â We were going to purchase some drinks and snacks but we put them back and just left. After we walked outside, we discussed and determined he had confused the two black kids in our group with two other black teens who were also in the store. My guess is this old white guy thinks all black people look the same. Anyway, we used to love this store, but we wonât be back to this location as long as the old guy is there snapping his fingers at people and making ridiculous and rude...
Read moreI ordered chairs. Waited three weeks, was promised they would be arriving. They canceled the chairs without notice. Said itâs inventory stock at the store level, but I can reorder online. The rep said I would have to pay for shipping and she couldnât guarantee the condition they would arrive in (!?).
I go to the store. They said they didnât know why it was canceled. But I can reorder online. For more money. But they did nothing to find out why it was canceled. Have no reassurance that it wouldnât be canceled again. Now I have to dispute charges on my credit card statement because they had no money taking the money. It sucks because I shopped here all the time, but wonât be going back. Manager told me they had 12 of those chairs come in, they just werenât mine.
If anyone reads this, the charges of 459.90 need to be...
