This haunted house was a lot of fun! As someone who used to work as an actor in haunted houses in the past, I was genuinely impressed with how well put together this one was, despite being so new. The extra $1 for a "Touch of Death" pass is definitely worth it. Some of the actors seemed like they didn't quite know what to do with people who had it, others did amazing with it. I'm sure as the season goes on, it'll just get even better as they get more comfortable with their roles.
In terms of scariness, I wasn't extremely scared, but my brother who was walking in front of me seemed pretty terrified of most of the things as they jumped at him first. If you've got scaredy cat friends, definitely go through with the touch pass and make them stand in front of you and behind you. The actors did this great thing where they would pop out behind the last person to scare them after they had gone past. 10/10 stuff if you find amusement in watching your friends scream in terror. I feel without the touch pass it probably wouldn't have been as fun or scary as the aspect of "they can't touch me" is then gone and the jump scares become a lot more anxiety inducing since they'll grab ya, but the group behind us seemed pretty scared the whole time without them.
The workers at front did good in terms of spacing people out at the beginning, so you weren't sardined through in one shove, which I highly appreciated! The group behind us walked pretty fast and caught up to us a few times as they ran from things but there wasn't really any times that we had to stand in a room and wait because the people ahead of us had caught the people ahead of them and whatnot.
The entirety of the haunted house went on for a surprisingly long time! I was worried it would be really short, since it is relatively new and I'm usually pretty disappointed by the how short some that have been around for a long time are, but was thoroughly impressed by how long it went on! Each section was well thought out in terms of decoration, and actors aptly placed. There were a few places that would have been a lot of fun to have actors pop up, but I understand not being able to fill absolutely everywhere with as many people as you might want.
The 3D maze was super cool. I absolutely loved walking through that entire thing. It was a little difficult to wear their 3D glasses over my own glasses, but I definitely could've just taken mine off so that is not a dig on them at all. The art in there was amazing and everything was just so well designed throughout it.
Overall a pretty great haunted house and great experience :) I will definitely recommend it to friends. I can't wait to see this whole thing grow and become better and better the...
Read moreHahaha, okay, let me start by saying that I went to Dead City last year, their first year. When we were in line, we thought it seemed kitschy and green, but when we actually went through it, it ended up being our fave of the season. So now this is the second year. We came before it even opened for the night, so we were right at the front of the general admission line, which, by the way, is long to allow for social distancing, but very thematic if you do end up waiting in it. We had maybe a five minute wait, including the room I mention next. There's a room where you wait to enter the haunt, kinda like Nightmare on 13th does. That was great. We were able to understand the monsters as they spoke this time too. A timed door gives a lot of great space for both social distancing and enjoying the haunt with your own group (though again, the young adults behind us ended up catching up). The haunt itself was awesome! So many animatronics and electronic stuff. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that EVERYTHING moves. They also had a ton of actors. And these aren't the type that have dialogue really, they're mostly there for the jump scares. In fact, if your complaint with any other haunt is the lack of jump scares, this is the place for you. There was a lot happening; I might have use my bounceback pass to get another look. My sisters ended up with sore throats from screaming. There are steps inside the haunt; nothing scary at those points of course. Though I did find the steps in the clown area difficult to see while wearing 3d glasses and a mask. And I didn't want to look down for the (very brightly lit in blacklight) steps, because I was so intrigued in the walls and props. The paint job in that area was amazing. A little more creepy type of clown than usual. Loved it. We got through the haunt in about 25 minutes. We go at a moderate pace; no sense in rushing through it after all. All in all, I'd say this tied with Nightmare for fave of the season for me. Nightmare is longer, but Dead city doesn't lose to them in quality of props and actors. And I think Dead city has a lot...
Read moreMy friends and I came to this haunt because we had access to free tickets. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am the biggest wimp who jumps at even the simplest scares, so I was excited to see this new haunt. When we arrived to get in line we where approached by actors, they seemed to have very low energy, we talked with them for a bit and in an attempt to scare me one of them screamed directly in my ear. I jumped but not out of fear, but because it hurt. There was another actor outside who was on Facebook live the entire time we waited. After 30 minutes in line we got up to the booth, we showed them our tickets and we where placed back into another line where we waited another 20 minutes. Before we where allowed into the photo booth we where pulled aside by an actor who told us to act super enthusiastic and surprised when he asks to take our picture or the kid working it would cry? We enter the haunt and I was excited to see this first room, the devote was creepy and my skin started to crawl. The first actor greeted us near the exit and gave us a very low every monologue about taking our skin or something. She let's us through and the other girls in the room just stared at us. Later on you enter a beautifully painted 3d maze. The art with the glasses make it hard to tell what was real and what wasn't so I got a few good scares, especially in the beginning. Further in the maze there where a few characters giving conflicting directions and while it worked to scare me and fill me with doubt for a bit, I was irritated after what felt like and hour. Alot of the actors gave very low energy performances. The entire time I felt like I was just interacting with tired people in costumes. I saw signs stating that this was a trial run, I hope this feedback can help work it out. The art in the maze was gorgeous and alot of the costumes where really cool, and I plan to come back in October and see how far...
