General Mercantile & Old Time String Shop — Local services in Nacogdoches

Really charming little store with most of the original elements and a cool selection of recreated vintage toys/instruments. The mural outside is iconic. The wood burning heater was brought down from Minnesota and it’s one more classic element to lend additional charm to the space. There is no AC, so be prepared for that, but honestly, the windows are open and fans are blowing, so it’s not unbearable. The Mercantile is a great stop. Great retro items. The instruments are well cept and beutiful. Great assortments of useful and novelty. Puts you back to when this would have been the only store. I moved to Nacogdoches a year ago and when I needed help with my violins and bows, I went to a couple different music shops in town. This shop is my favorite! Quaint, old-timey and simple. The folks there are kind and helpful and honest. They recommended violin teachers and a piano tuner, too....
