Horsewood Catering — Local services in Nampa

Let me preface this with my fiancé and I never, never write reviews but wanted to share our experience...

We decided to do our homework on caterers for our remote mountain wedding in fall 2021 and we absolutely fell in love with Horsewood Catering. The Chef/co-owner, Aaron, was very pleasant and took 30 minutes to get to know us and help create a individualized menu based off of our tastes. We asked if we could put down a deposit on our dates and he let us know that he “was our chef until we tell him otherwise” meaning he would block out our date as they don’t want people to be pressured on a deposit. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to have them as our catering company. Their sense of family and Idaho culture mirrored ours and the vibe we wanted for our intimate wedding

Over the next few weeks we had daily correspondence to solidify a menu including appetizers, dinner, and dessert agreed upon pricing. With everything set, they sent over a contract to be reviewed. We responded that same day asking the best way to put the deposit down and asked for a minor change to the contract (change quantity of 4 people attending the wedding). Of note, they had already signed the contract on their end stating they agreed to that date.

The next day, we received an email (not even a phone call) informing us that they had a COVID bride in contract from 2020 deciding to change her date to ours. After we requested a phone conversation regarding this, we asked if their Policy was to give COVID brides priority over ones already in contract and they said no - if they are in contract for a date they are not breaking it. We were floored by this response as we were clearly in contract. It was clear to us that it was strictly a business decision as they mentioned the other party had over 300 compared to our 50 people. After a disheartening conversation, they eventually admitted they were in the wrong but offered no action to correct...

Our wedding photographer's told us that Horsewood Catering was the absolute best food they have ever had at weddings. So we hired Horsewood Catering for our wedding - both the Rehearsal dinner and Reception dinner. And to make it extra difficult for them we needed everything both nights to be gluten free (I am celiac - as is my Mother In Law).

First, they put together the most amazing diverse menus(!) for us to choose from. Different budgets, styles, and flavors. So then we got to choose and pick between what we wanted for our actual tasting. And it was the best food I'd ever had. All their ingredients are locally sourced (or caught by Aaron himself!) which really lead to high quality food, and shows how much they care about the entirety of the process.

The rehearsal dinner I wasn't as involved with but it was amazing. Fresh gluten free bread rolls with homemade huckleberry butter, salmon, smash potatoes (which I'm still dreaming about), stuffed chicken breasts. It was perfection and EVERYONE couldn't stop eating or raving about the food.

For the wedding - Not everything went perfectly - but what went well was delicious and Aaron and Jessie went above and beyond to make everything right with us. And the problems were outside of their control (car problems causing under staffing, and Aaron throwing out his back). It wasn't perfect but I understand, and that's why there is also cake (or pie in our case) at the wedding!

I will 100% use them again, without any hesitation. Which probably sounds insane after the wedding not being perfect. BUT it was INSANELY delicious at the rehearsal dinner and tasting, I had zero reactions as a celiac which is HUGE, and they really really worked with us to make things right. I can genuinely say I have zero regrets with...

If you want the best there is to offer for your guests, you want Horsewood catering your event. If you want to impress your guests, you get Horsewood to cater your event. If you want the best in the TV and want to make sure everything is perfect, you want Horsewood.

I've had the pleasure of working several weddings where my couples have taken my advice and hired Horsewood Catering. Working with Bailey and Brooke and Carlos is a smooth process. They always give you 110%. They bring their A game every time.

Their set up is stunning. They always show up on time. They know how long it takes to set up and they cook on site to ensure everything is very fresh.

Brooke and Carlos do a lot of the cooking and they are a dream team. We had servers help with set up and clean up too with specific food items and Dominique, Luke, Roxy, and Phoebe were all excellent too. Our event went seamless because each person brought their A game and reviewed our timeline before arriving. As an event coordinator, they are truly a dream to work with as they always come prepared. Customer service aside, the food. The food is AMAZING. I think I've only had a few repeat sides here and there, but each time has been a new main entree, but one thing remains the same. DELICIOUS food! You really need to experience it. CONSISTENTLY delicious food. Consistently a beautiful set up.
