What do you need?
This is the question I was asked at the Customer Service desk around 2PM today. The employee working at that time made an attempt to help me out which is great, but his approach could be worked on. A simple, āHow May I help youā, is more appropriate. I canāt imagine all day during his shift that he greets or tends to customer needs by asking them, What do you need?ā So by did he choose to ask me that.
So my response to join was that, āI NEED for you toā¦. And he did but again his approach was disrespectful.
We all know this type of banter goes on and happens in businesses and stores and between customers all day everyday but people just donāt speak up. And then when it comes to a head and explodes to altercations or volatile situations, people play the blame game. When all that has to be done is not be rude/disrespectful or try to seem tough. Just greet the customers all the same, respectfully. Iām sure in training they donāt teach Employees to say, ā What do you need?ā
a second instance: I went to the produce isle and while at the cold beverage shelves looking for a particular drink, there was a worker standing there seemed to be doing inventory or something work wise maybe, where she was just standing near the area I was. So as I paced back and forth a couple of times behind her attempting to eye out the drink I wanted, she just stood there. I finally said to her āexcuse me, let me slide in here to get this drink. She kind of hesitated to where as even a co worker of hers was also there who seemed to be stocking said aloud, āand she still donāt want to moveā. I responded as she seemed to hesitantly move to the side, āthatās okay I know where everything is. Iām good, Iām good. Thank you though. ā
Customer Service/Customer Awareness - she knew I was behind her and looking for a drink. Thatās when you have to get past ego or any other personal feeling and remember, the customer comes first.
I see this so much and actually end up saying something to employees, customers, people when everyone knows with even their family members, certain people they have the utmost respect for and the like, they carry out great respect. Let that also carry out to the workplace. It avoids potential altercations and such and keeps customer service operating at its highest level possible so thereās a good experience for the customer.
It didnāt turn out to be a negative situation but please do make an adjustment in relevant cases where adjustments can be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went into this store 1/22/17 with the intention of grabbing a rotisserie chicken, purchasing it and leaving. There were NO chickens available and the line at the deli was 6 people deep. I stood there for 15 mins waiting for a chicken. Having been a Kroger employee previously, I am aware of many of the policies and procedures. There is a sign posted right above the hot food heating lamp area that if there is no 8 piece fried chicken or whole roasted chicken between the hours of 11 am-7 pm then the chicken is free. When I went to customer service to check out , I alerted the young lady that the chicken was supposed to be free. She said "where you see that at?". I told her. She went to the sign and came back and tried to tell me that it meant AFTER 7 pm. I was born at night, but not last night. I said that is not what it meant. She then proceeded to go to the deli employees and ask them like I placed the sign there before I walked up to the counter. She called Ms. Walker after making me wait 6 mins. Ms. Walker says she can give it to me for 50% off. I said that is not what the sign says and she needs to honor the sign. I did not write that guarantee. She hung up with the cashier who then proceeded to ring up other customers while I was standing there another 8 mins. The cashier called Ms. Walker back again and after chatting with her for another 5 mins she says "you can just take the chicken" with an attitude like I did something wrong. I have had several issues with this Kroger before, but never felt like I felt last night. I am by no means broke, indigent, on government assistance looking for a handout-- none of the above. I had the intention of being in and out in 5 mins or less and this ordeal became 30 mins of my life that I will never get back all because of a Kroger guarantee that I wanted honored. I did not write the rule. This area is being seriously gentrified and with all those white folks coming in and out, you would think there would be a Publix-type atmosphere. But noooooo. It gets more and more "ratchet" every single day. Corporate needs to do something about this. I am disgusted and disappointed. It was no longer about the chicken but there was no respect in this transaction even from the manager. That will be my LAST time visiting this Kroger. I will post my experience on Facebook, Twitter and Google Reviews. This store is trash--customer service is trash, parking lot is trash. The shelves are rarely ever stocked. I am done...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen you can't get assistance you would think that going to the Customer Service desk would be the logical thing to do. Not the case when the employee in the seafood department was standing behind the counter with my mother and I standing there about 30 seconds before he totally ignored us and walked from behind the counter talking loudly to another employee about personal things in the middle isle. It was 8:30AM and I understand that stocking happens during slower times. But there were employees with on the sales floor with ear phones in their ears. How can you hear. I go to Customer Service to let a Manger know I needed some assistance know Seafood in the department. There were two employees behind the saw me approach the counter. One looked down and continued doing something, the other walked to the other side of the counter area to talk to another employee about how she didn't play her numbers yesterday. Again neither greeted or acknowledged me. Although the I got the name of the Store Manager my experiences did not feel that telling the head of the store would make a difference. I worked for Kroger in Greenhills in college. Our service was a condition of employment. Making customers feel welcome, to know that we are available to assist was the job of every person there. We had fun at work. Being trained in the customer experience for years I believe the the store is a reflection of the management. I relocated here as a Publix shopper. But I came back because I grew up with Kroger here. Apparently I will make the drive and pass Kroger until they put a Publix in the he area. I am sure one is in the works....
