I enjoy talking to staff, but shopping is to buy something. Here, it's mostly clothing and broken dishes or items with missing pieces. And yes, the store smells foul, and they are often closed within hours they should be open, including 1-2 hours or 1/2 day for lunch. Why? I don't think the owner and manager cares about the community it is tasked to care for.
Two separate visits I was looking at furniture I would have purchased, but told by manager items are not for sale to the public. Instead, the manager stated she reserved better or antique pieces to be sold to (friends) across the street who have a competing antique store. The manager even called out to them walking through the open front door, hollering to the antiques dealer to come over now to which the antiques dealer could be heard saying she would come later that day to look at new merchandise that have just arrived for sale.
Yet shoppers inside the store with cash in hand offering to buy the items on the spot and take home immediately (like me), were denied the honor of purchasing any of these high-end antiques. Instead, they were reserved and considered SOLD to the antiques dealer across the street, although that lady hadn't even seen it yet because that's how they do things! But yet it's considered "sold." And this is a charity store meant to help the community.
Another visit that same manager told me she does the same for books, reserves antiques and furniture, and collectible items, and now add books to the list to sell to a different retailer friend across the street who owns a bookstore. Without the public ever seeing these items or being offered the opportunity to purchase them first. This disgusts me.
So, in my opinion, this charity store is under serving the community and not deserving of donations made by the community. Why? It doesn't appear they give back to anyone but competing retailers on their street. Except peddling broken dishes and dirty clothes to the public.
Instead of better items and antiques being sold to a needy public, the manager stated she goes straight away to competing books and antique stores in the area, selling to them instead of to the public. The store is supposed to be there to help the community, NOT enrich pockets of already well-to-do business owners in the Navasota community! If you want to purchase any items donated by good and caring people, you must now pay full retail prices across the street at antique shops and/or bookstore across the street. The high-end retail shops are mostly benefitting instead of a needy public, for items that were free and donated by caring individuals who wanted to bless the community with their treasures.
This charity resale store got the items for free to help the public, not for a quid pro quo arrangement with local business owners to bypass the needy public, now selling at outrageous antique store prices 😳 across the street. Not nice at all. Not helping needy families or individuals anywhere, except to sell them mostly clothing.
There is a dry cleaners across the street as well. Why not take your clothes there first? Upscale your establishment. Get rid of selling to shop owners over customers, as a preferred policy. Say after 3 days and not sold, the high end antiques stores can only then come in to buy? Trash your smelly floors and put in new paint and fixtures. Start over. Nickel and dime damaged goods and raise your clientele and business standards. Get a new manager who will work a full day. And offer one day a week to stay open late, for locals working who are in need, but by the time they come home you are closed. Your store should be ashamed of it's business ethics and business practices. PUT YOUR LOCAL...
