River Place — Local services in New Bern

The Publix grocery store at River Place is an excellent grocery store. I started shopping at Publix in 1995 when I lived in Charleston, SC. When we moved to FL, 2 1/2 years later, I found many more since they are headquartered in Lakeland, FL. There was no change in quality or customer service whatsoever. When I moved here to NC I was disappointed they were not here.....yet. However, when I found they were putting one in I could hardly wait. This is actually the local Publix supermarket. In addition to the usual fine selection of food, groceries and baked goods, they have the best crew of employees in any area supermarket. Hands down. The employees are always helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. They are not afraid to make eye contact and engage you in a conversation or greeting. The cashiers we interact with are always very professional, fast and pleasant. Someone in the HR department knows how to find, train and keep these employees. I went to ALDI and did some grocery shopping. It was a little crowded, but not too much. The prices are very competitive with Wal-Mart and slightly less expensive than Wal-Mart. The most obvious difference is that Wal-Mart will stock 50 kinds of bread and ALDI will stock 6 kinds of bread. The store aisles are wide enough to navigate and the selections are very well organized. Another thing I liked was that they didn't have any employees just standing around like some other stores I've gone to. I recommend ALDI for your grocery shopping if you're interested in...
