This review is for the inpatient rehab at children's specialized specifically on the second floor. A facility's measure of true service is not judged by just fine buildings and structures with designs, It's the service of the staff that leaves a true experience for the patient and family. This is a RACIST facility, they look at your skin color to determine the quality of service they would give to you. My daughter had a hip and pelvis reconstruction surgery and was transferred here from NY since the only other rehab hospital a Westchester had no bed at the time, we got here on 1/31/23 and left on 3/4/23, from nurses failing to give medications on time and leaving her to whine and cry in pain as she was nonverbal, to staffs stealing my child's food that we brought from NY on daily basis, to the PT/OT and speech cutting her therapy time half, to them isolating my child because she was exposed by their own PT, How do you isolate a child that kept coming back negative from the test you administered every other day? I can get it if she was positive but that wasn't the case. The director of Rehab, by name ANNMARIE, is the worst staff anyone can have not to talk of being a director, she's so insensitive and inhumane to a child that has gone through so much, The morning following the night my baby was not served a tray at lunch and dinner, she came into the room and when we reported to her she stated "Well..... at least she got breakfast",like seriously are you for real? that's the best thing that could come out of her dirty mouth! She needs to be fired, She and AMANDA the physical therapist refused to submit the requirements that were needed for the medical insurance to provide the equipment we needed for discharge, they vehemently refused to despite all push from us! refused to follow the precautions set by the surgeon post-surgery and was forcing my daughter down the stairs so prematurely and impacting more trauma to the surgical hip because they needed to pretend they had achieved their goal, All she did was lie against my mum and cut my daughter's therapy sessions into half of the time and when we asked why, she frowned and expected me to take that. The recreation department never came to take my child to the recreation room for play and when I did bring her, they will give us their fake smiles and start acting weird when my child cries, Dr yalamanchi and the NP along with the dir of nursing could not follow up on what was needed, we had to bring our medications from home including commonly used tropical ointments, My daughter did not make any progress for all the period she was there. Security staff would make funny unprofessional remarks as people passed by. Food was terrible and yet when you bring your own homemade food someone steals it from the fridge and when they don't have what to say they lie to you that the food was thrown away by cleaners, how can you throw food that was labeled and dated within the time frame without asking the patients? I would not advise/recommend for anyone to come here given my experience. I had to buy rehab pieces of equipment from amazon as they refused to provide any, I bought the abductor wedge pillow, shoe raise/lift, darco shoes, etc.Terrible and sad experience from a supposed rehab inpatient facility. Now, a few of them were considerate ,and tried to make amends, thank you to nurse shamona, nurse Christina, pct Mckenzie(she was nice), the female PT...
Read moreMy son, Daniel, was hospitalized twice at Children's Specialized for Guillain Barre Syndrome, a peripheral nervous system disorder. The first time was when he was 5 years old in 2005 and he was hospitalized at the Mountainside location, where he received the best possible care in every area of his rehabilitation and we, as a family, felt incredibly nurtured and cared for. The second time he was stricken with GBS was in 2016, at the age of 17. Because of our excellent experience with CSH previously, we hoped and prayed that the hospital would take Daniel back again for rehab. At the New Brunswick inpatient location, where he was sent after being in the ICU for a few weeks, he received incomparable medical, therapeutic, recreational, respiratory, nursing care and more. Within 30 minutes of his arrival, a team of doctors, nurses, and therapists (many of whom were familiar faces from 12 years prior), surrounded Daniel’s bed. He was completely paralyzed and unable to communicate except for blinking once for yes and twice for no. This did not interfere with the doctors, nurses and therapists immediately finding ways to engage Daniel and they got to know him very quickly. Not a moment was wasted in developing a treatment plan and after 4 months of grueling and intensive therapies, he was taking steps, breathing off the ventilator, talking, and eating real food. Needless to say, I did not have a moment's worry about the care my son was receiving on all fronts. However, what stood out for me more than anything, as Daniel's primary caregiver, was the kindness, the empathy, and the professionalism shown by the staff across the board. I never felt alone and was always made to feel a part of the treatment team. No questions ever seemed too silly and the inclusion of Daniel and his family in his treatment was very critical - at a time when we all felt so confused and scared. The truest testament to this amazing hospital, however, comes straight from Daniel. A few months after his discharge, he was asked to speak about the hospital. He said, “Children’s Specialized Hospital is the gold standard, not only for what a hospital should be, but what a home and a family should be as well.” I think that...
Read moreMy child was an inpatient (and later an outpatient) at Children’s Specialized Hospital for three months. The staff there was incredible. Everyone was so helpful in making the process go smoothly. They happily catered to our special needs as a religious Jewish family. The facilities were clean, bright, and cheery- The accommodations for the patients AND for the parents were unbelievable. We truly felt at home during our stay at the hospital. With the help of the VERY dedicated and professional therapists and medical staff our daughter has made a nearly complete recovery. The hospital also offers all the cutting-edge technology available to aid in the recovery process. We owe our daughter's physical and mental health to the care we received at Children’s Specialized Hospital!
A special shout out goes to Tara Mohammed, our designated Child Life Specialist who enabled our daughter to cope with the sudden changes in her situation and guided her through the sometimes painful therapy sessions. We are so thankful that she was there to help us through the process after our daughter was sent to Children’s Specialized Hospital. She was kind and caring and our daughter warmed up to her immediately.
Dr. Fantasia' expert care and advice promoted the quick recovery we experienced under her guidance. She made sure to be thorough and explain everything in a way that we would all understand.
Children's Specialized is unique in that the entire hospital experience - while offering the very best medical care money can buy- feels less like a hospital stay and more like- and these are my 11 year old daughter's words- a summer camp stay! We can't be more grateful for all they have...
