The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because Izzy did a good job on my hair. But the disrespect that he gave for my time was unacceptable. I honestly wouldn’t have gotten my hair done here if I didn’t have a trip the next day. I booked an appointment with Izzy who cancelled the appointment about 2 hours before the appointment. Mind you I work an hour from the place so luckily I didn’t leave my job before the text. He said he would do my hair as early as I’d like the next day for cancelling. So I asked 7am I had a lot of appointments that day. He agreed! Next morning he rescheduled my appointment to 8:30 without telling me. So im all the way in New Haven looking stupid. So since I really needed my hair done I waited til 8:30, he then just texts me that he just woke up and his phone was on silent and wasn’t gonna make it for 8:30. Too me at this point it felt like he just didn’t care about me, and really didn’t care to do my hair to just blatantly disrespect me like that. Fast forward, this guy finally shows up at 10:30am. If this was a normal day I would’ve been left but I really needed my hair done. He did do my hair well, and gave me 50$ off but I just felt like he did not care and I felt if he really didn’t want to do my hair he could have just said it instead of having me wait out in New Haven for 3 hours like a fool. It’s not like he said I’ll be in by 10:30 he first told me 9:30 then kept saying he was on the way. Guess he thought he’s too good for new clients since he did a “celebrity” client or whatever . Definitely felt like I should’ve just got this for free or something but I don’t like to argue with people. I will just never come back here. This place charge fees for people who show up late or cancel last minute but don’t hold themselves to the standard they expect for their clients.
And now the comment replied to the owner is complete bull and takes little accountability. I have a life just like everybody else and I made time to Show up. No one and I repeat no one told me there was someone else to help me get started . When I finally went into the salon, because it was not open when I arrived. When I finally went in around 10am even though my appointment was originally for 7 then 8:30 then 9:30 after completely no call no showing and was never a mention of someone else being there to be able to help me out when I finally got a hold of him on the phone, I walked into the salon at 10am . There was someone there doing someone else’s hair and said “hi are you waiting for Izzy” and I said “yes” and she said “he will be there soon” if you can’t make a 7am it’s called communication. Communicate the time you can come in so I can make things work like I had to do anyway. I love the blaming going on. It was wrong the way it was handled period. I was fine because I don’t argue with people I don’t cause scenes. The hairdresser knows he was wrong end of story. I did what I’m supposed to do. Got my discount and left an honest review. My life and the stuff I have to do is just as important as anyone else’s. So if you commit a time to someone and can’t make it just communicate it, I dropped down to one star for this response. You are wrong period. Do better. It’s one thing to be wrong and just apologize but to put any blame on me for anything is absolutely not going to be accepted . This is beyond people “not being perfect.” It’s just straight inconsiderate. I don’t be rude to people doing my service cause idk what people...
Read moreif you have long, thick hair, beware! wanted to get my hair dyed and cut so I booked a consultation with Izzy. this would be my first time using any hair color so I had several questions. Izzy was informative and patient, but I noticed he did not touch my hair at all. at the time, I had old mini twists in, but still, this shocked me. we picked a date where i would be his only client, I paid my deposit, and was told what the remaining total would be.
fast forward to the morning of our appointment, he texts me to reschedule. luckily my job at the time was flexible so I was able to make this work, but was frustrated by the last minute switch.
I arrive at the salon the next day and notice he is working with someone else which already let me know this was going to be a long day. he begins to develop my hair, and about halfway through goes "I did not realize how dense your hair was." he ended up having to go buy more product in the middle of this process and i immediately thought of our consultation and how this could've been avoided. the developing process went well, but he did not go section by section when applying the dye which later resulted in several missed spots in my hair.
my silk press and cut were good, but I wanted the entire experience to be professional and a salon-worthy color job and i simply did not receive this. the entire process took about 7 hours. he THEN asked me for about $80 more than our agreed upon total because he had to buy more product which, in hindsight, i should have refused to pay. people should get paid fairly for the work they do, but not at the expense of the customer.
black women should not be treated any differently because of our hair thickness or density. this has been a recurring issue in the natural hair community and i was shocked to be on the receiving end of this sort of treatment, at a black...
Read moreGood cut, lovely service, clean comfortable salon. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. When I messaged on instagram to ask for a barber cut, I was invited to call on the phone the next day. The next morning, someone answered the phone promptly and offered me a same-day appointment. I entered the salon and two people cheerfully greeted me "hello!" The lady at the register smiled and said my stylist would be right with me. She asked me to disinfect my hands and showed me to a velvet couch with gold-embroidered pillows (no joke!) There was tasteful music playing at a comfortable volume on the salon loudspeakers. I only waited about 10 minutes till the previous customer was done. Then my stylist gave me a lovely cut and chatted with me about this and that. It was a warm and friendly experience. I felt happy to give a 50% tip afterwards. And after I left, two people complimented my hair on the street and in the shops. Thank you Ebony for a wonderful welcome...
