Typical subway station in terms of amenities, datedness, and tidiness. The location is really convenient if you're visiting Brooklyn Bridge (1-min. walk), Wall Street or World Trade Center (10-15 min walk). And if you're also visiting Grand Central Terminal, you can take the 4 or 5 express train here, with the ride taking at least 15 mins.
The 6 train ends here but legend has it that you can stay on as the train loops back to its uptown route, and you'll get a glimpse of the beautifully decorated and abandoned City Hall station. It looks like a lot of people have done this without consequences, although I read that the MTA could fine you upwards of $50 if you get caught. If you want to do a proper tour, you can check the New York Transit Museum for tickets, which are generally hard to come by since they don't do the tours often and tickets...
Read moreThis station is one of my favorite memories of my trip to NYC. When you come up the stairs, it's just a TON of hustle and bustle. Be prepared if you're going to make that trip - if the weather is nice, there are going to be a LOT of people taking that walk.

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area and was passionate about architecture - this really added to the tour. My only issue with it is that NYTM does not tell you upfront that audio equipment is used for the tour (I have some difficulty with certain types of sound, though I am not deaf. There were definitely parts of the tour where it was much better for me to turn off the audio transmitter and get close enough to the guide to be able to hear him/read his lips).
The station, while in disrepair from 70 years of disuse, really is worth seeing and...
