I have visited this salon a few times over the years. They do overall okay work if you want something simple done, which is why I turned despite the lack of consistent client service. I stopped going originally because the owner didnt listen to me when I asked her not to use shears on my curly hair as it always gives me the poodle effect, but before I realized she was doing it anyway. I was already turned off by how rude she treated her staff so that was the last straw. Didnt go back for years but wanted a fresh look after quarantine and didnt want to travel far so I visited them back in July. They charged me almost $500 for a balayage. I fully expected to spend a ton for my long hair (and for quality service, dont mind) but I was left with dye marks on my forehead because instead of applying vaseline, they left me unprotected snd rubbed my skin raw to try to remove the stains. My scalp was also sore from the yanking (picture thick long curly hair, wet and bleached - detangling requires care and patience - none of which my stylist had ). And the color was a bit brassy. Again, $500 for that, but whatever. I made another appointment 2 months later to retouch my roots (i know, im a glutton for punishment but again, this is local) and they gave me a 5pm appt. I left work early but got stuck in heavy traffic and called to say Id be late but was perfectly willing to cancel for another day if that didnt work for the stylist because I respect peoples time (and I hate to be late). She said it was fine to come but when I walked in and apologized, she rolled her eyes and told me to sit. I shouldve left then and there. She was again rude and again stained my forehead and yanked my hair. While I waited for the color to process, she tended to a new groupon customer and she couldnt have been nicer to her, which made me feel very singled out. Once she washed my color out she asked if I wanted her to dry my hair. I was so confused, um, yes? So she ran a cold blower through it and said āmore?ā Thats when I realized she had no intention of giving me a proper blow dry (or even use a diffuser on my curly hair) and certainly didnt plan on trimming, even though it had been 8 weeks and I desperately needed it. I hate confrontation so I didnt protest but I have spent good money here and to send me out a wet hot mess with not even a trim was unprofessional to say the least. If she didnt want the appointment, she should have told me and I wouldve come back another day. But dont accept it and then treat me rudely and do the mĆnimum. This is not a favor, ive dropped a lot of money here. I will never go back. What I learned from my exp and the reviews are if you are a first time groupon customer, youll enjoy it your first time. But beware if you want more than a wash/dry or expect to be treated respectfully. And to the salon: you can save your reply. Do better. This wasn't right. If you want more clientele, try treating people who spend their hard earned money here...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI loved this place for cuts and styles but I was SEVERELY dissatisfied with the color services I had recently and the morality of this place. Maria charged me for a color I didn't like and said "come in two weeks so that I could fix it free of charge." She left the job for Tina to do and on top of that Billed me twice. That's immoral.
Google does not allow responses after the first review. If the job is not done right it very rightly should come out of the professionalās pocket. The color didnāt come out right and to top it off she left a trillion different tones on my head. It looked like a beauty school dropout bleached my hair. Lucy instructed me to arrive in 2 weeks (for hair damage caution) and I even booked an appointment on site, then on all media she states that I came back 3 weeks later. I should have never paid period because sheās obviously a liar. I didnāt want to make an issue but I was never so unsatisfied with my hair service in my entire life. If you want specialty services this is not the place to go to. Sheāll do anything to take your money. Itās not a matter of expense for me, rather an issue of customer service.
Donāt waste your time on Lucy, sheās an awful owner. Go to Dramatics NYC. They even massage your scalp when your hair is being washed. I am going to add, I had Manhattan hair colorists lift my hair to white before adding cool-toned colors (browns or blondes) with no issues or damage. I don't know what the treatments are called but, Queens stylists have a habit of charging Manhattan prices for mediocre Sally's beauty DIY quality. They don't know the difference between the colors pastel pink, rose gold, and bronze. Rose gold highlights are not bronze. You can damage your hair the same from the comfort of your home-honestly. I don't need luck on my hair journey, I know how to take care of my hair and when to see a professional. After this awful experience I was so traumatized that it took 3 years to transition into 100% virgin hair and stopped getting haircuts in Queens altogether. 7 years later (2025), I get my layered trims and summer frizz treatments ONLY in Korean/Japanese salons in the city. My hair is as long, healthy, and thick as it was when I was a child. Don't get your hair done in places like this if you have ANY form of curl and natural expresso hair. Pay more and get your wanted result on your initial...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can not say enough good things about Evelina Salon and Lucy and Maria. I have been on so many consultations for hair extensions, and for some reason I havent found anyone I felt I comfortable with to do my hair. I have alot of damage from previous hair extension methods, my hair color (blonde with highlights) has never been how I wanted it, and I've spend so much money at other places only to leave feeling dissatisfied.
I went for a consultation with Lucy and just based on her character alone I knew I wanted her to do my hair. She listened to me, I felt she understood me, and I felt it was important to her to make sure I would be satisfied. After having to cancel on her last minute for our first appointment, she came in the next day on her day off just to accomodate me so I wouldnt have to wait weeks for her next appointment because she knew I wanted my hair done before I have to go away.
I can not emphasize enough how much i LOVE my hair. She has the perfect eye for color matching. She matched the hair extensions perfect to what I had, using a few different colors to achieve the perfect blend. My hair looks amazing I have been getting so many compliments, I cant express how happy I am. My hair is soft, shiny, long, and looks so beautiful. The quality of hair is the best I have ever had. She was patient with me, made sure the entire time that I liked what she was doing, and I knew I was in good hands when she was doing the work.
She gave me the perfect haircut after putting in the extensions, perfect layers and angled everything better than I have expected. I never had such a nice haircut. I was nervous she was going to cut too much and I could tell she knew I was nervous, so she would take off a little at a time to make sure I was comfortable, and then would keep going.
The next day I decided I love my hair so much, but I should have went alittle bit shorter, and lucy told me I would go right into the salon the same day if I wanted, and even though she was not there, another girl Maria was there and she could trim me. Maria was also so nice and sweet and also took alittle bit off at a time to make sure she wouldnt cut too much.
Both of these ladies have such a nice warm character and really know what they are doing with hair. I can not recommend Evelina Salon enough and 5 stars is not enough to say how satisfied I...
