I have gotten a few gems in this place for the last 21 years. But invariably the owner has been downright rude or has not even said "thank you" at the end of the transaction. I would have bought more things there but I'd rather just get them off the internet despite wanting to support local business. One time I had called about a particular album and one price was quoted to me over the phone. When I got there it was about $10 more( which in all fairness was just an honest mistake I don't feel there was any shiftyness going on-)- I still wanted it and intended to buy it but when I questioned it the owner said "well then I suggest you go buy it somewhere else" And then he continued to speak to the customer behind me about me. I was extremely embarrassed and I wasn't looking for a bargain I just asked a question. To be quite honest it was a bummer and I left feeling very badly that's all.-- from that experience alone I would rather just find my stuff online or...
Read moreThis shop is the epitome of the cliched nyc record shop, curmudgeonly shop owner included. If you have shop rules, respect your customers and POST THEM. I attempted to check the quality of a used record labeled "as-is" and had the record snatched out of my hand by the shop owner while he mumbled insults under his breath. I always respect shops, their owners and their product and I won't shop anywhere where owners refuse to do the same. Aside from the bad owner experience, stock is weak and targeted at tourists (new copies of Madonna, Prince, Bowie you can find much cheaper anywhere else). Little to no hip-hop or electronic music. Used pricing was all over the place and many items intentionally not tagged so he can make the final judgement on whether he wants to sell to you or not when you have to ask how much. Worst record shop in the city. Literally go anywhere else. NYC shop owners respect their patrons and make record digging fun... this place is...
