I was staying in the Washington Square area over the holidays and needed a haircut before spending New Years Eve at the Kennedy Center in DC. Looking for a modern faded cut like the one I get back home in Dallas, I was intrigued by the name of this barbershop, so I decided to give it a try. When I got there, Joey was just finishing a customer and was able to take me right away. Now this guy...not only is he the owner...he is the haircut whisperer! He knew exactly how I wanted my hair to look and boy did he deliver. He expertly alternated between clippers, scissors, and straight razor and had me looking great in no time. Plus, the guy is nice as hell and could talk about any and all topics. It was a pleasure to get such a great haircut in a relaxed, down-low environment. The shop looked new...very clean and tastefully decorated. No fru-fru, cheesy boy-band-looking pictures of mens haircuts on the wall. Just a great atmosphere for a quality, hassle-free and affordable haircut. As Joey was finishing my haircut, the shop started getting busy so I opted to skip the complimentary neck shave just to allow someone else in the chair. Joey was really upset that he wasn't going to give me the full service but I assured him that I was OK with that. You can't find that kind of professionalism every day. Guys...the next time you need a haircut, try Wicked Ways. This would be my permanent barber if I lived in NYC but I guess I'll just have to make it a point to stop by whenever I am...
Read moreWhile the atmosphere of the place is cool. I was beyond unhappy with the shave/beard shape I got from Ruben. Told him give me long thick chop sideburns. Think 1970's. Length was initially good but he trimmed them so thin they look like a shadow. And they were uneven. To the point I had to come back to get them fixed.. now they're about 3/4 an inch shorter than I had asked for. I guess it is a good thing he trimmed them down to near skin vs the #2 I asked for so I can go to a better barber and have it fixed correctly in a week or two.
The kick in the teeth that will keep me from coming back and it may seem like a small thing to you. He trimmed the eyebrows without asking. I've been going to barbers for beard trims for over 20 years. I've always been asked. And I've always said no. I have purposely left mine alone. Think Ming the Merciless/Devil brows. I've had them like that my entire life. I like them like that. Might not be his thing, but it's my face not his.
I didn't realize he did this till he already trimmed one. Couldn't have him not trim the other at this point. Did he do a good job trimming them? Yeah. But I did not want it. Mix that with the fact the sideburns were badly uneven and much lighter than I asked for the trim to be, and now are much shorter than I asked for and I'll be in wedding pictures like this over the weekend, I won't be...
Read moreI just moved into the area and found this place to be amazing. Albert did my haircut the first time I went and I go back to him every single time now. I've been going rogue for years just telling barbers to shave the sides then scissors on top and after talking to Albert, I let him do his thing and it came out amazing. The fades are out of this world, great with scissors, and even a better guy to talk to. He works on making it perfect spending anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to make sure It's exactly what I wanted. He is always communicating and asking if there's anything he can do if you want more off, how do you feel, etc. The BEST part is the cuts are only $19 and if you're not satisfied with a certain part of the cut you can come back within 30 days and they'll fix it. They also just hired a barber named Jacob who is doing flat tops, fades, can design and etch in your hair, and everything. This place is...
