What can I say? Stepping into Smile Cafe Dental Spa off of Park Avenue this past Monday was an absolute treat. Upon opening the office door, I was immediately and warmly greeted by the receptionist only to then be escorted directly to the hygienist to the back work area, which seemed a veritable hive of activity. Despite the obvious business of the office, the dulcet sounds of Bossa Nova playing throughout the suite lulled me into a calm stupor as the hygienist carefully reviewed my chart. Soon after, a technician led me to the panoramic scanner and gently coached me how to position my chin. Back in the dentist chair, the hygienist Ingrith and I chatted amiably for a bit more before she commenced to do X-rays and a first rate but remarkably gentle cleaning. After this had been completed, another very sweet technician arrived to use a wand-like camera device to photograph my mouth from multiple angles so as to then quickly stitch the resulting photos together into a 3D digital model. Dr Noor was then introduced, after which he did a check for cavities et cetera. When I mentioned in passing that I was concerned about an orthodontic wire recently coming loose behind my mandibular incisors, he quickly offered to remedy the situation, completely free of charge (!), making sure to clean the area thoroughly , and and meticulously re-adhering the wire by curing the adhesive applied at each contact point. He even went so far as to insist on sanding down the cured adhesive when I mentioned it felt a bit bulky. Notably, 12 years ago, I had needed similar work done when the wire became lose, only to be charged $300-400 for the same exact work. I cringe to think of what the going rate for such a repair might now be today! Needless to say, I remain grateful to Dr Noor and his team and to the utmost selfless generosity that he demonstrated in quickly offering to help me with this issue. After all of of this work was completed, I was led to Dr Noor’s consult room where he proceeded to meet with me and show me the 3D scans of my mouth so I might easily visualize the topography of my teeth and the degree to which some of the molars have been worn down by grinding. I greatly appreciated his sharing his views on the lack of effectiveness of night guards as well as his proposal to employ an alternative solution that would not cause as much tension in the jaw. He did not however push any sales and at no point did I feel pressured to agree to signing up for any additional treatments or protocols.
In sum, I remain blown away by Dr Noor’s generosity, humility, humanity and the outstanding sensitivity and empathy displayed by him and his team. This entire office felt like a rare nest of creativity where things are truly HAPPENING, where innovations of the dental variety are perpetually underway and where the cogs never stop turning. Thank you Dr Noor and team for a dreamy Monday afternoon...
Read moreI am going to echo everyone who is saying this place is a scam. They ruined my beautiful smile, and I want a refund!
I found this place through Groupon in early 2021. I went in for a consultation because I had some spacing in my two front teeth. After speaking with Dr. Noor, who assured me he invented attachments on the back of the teeth for Invisalign, I had a quote for $6,800. I had Invisalign a couple of years prior and stressed this to them because this amount for a minor correction seemed too high.
Through her pushy sales tactics, Astrid convinced me to get a loan by explaining that I was signing up for a credit. The office also claimed I needed fillings and even threatened that I had to pay $75 if I was late to any appointments. Sidenote: Christy, who makes the appointments, is always incredibly rude on the phone. I have complained about her to no avail.
A dental assistant who goes by "professor" never wants to tell me his real name, is always fake-friendly and never knows how to explain what procedures I am getting. He doesn't listen to me when I have told him countless times that my smile is crooked. He repeatedly dismissed me when I told him I wanted to whiten my teeth.
During my first consultation, Dr. Noor claimed my jaw was not aligned after I questioned needing 60+ aligners to fix minor spacing in my two front teeth. He convinced me I needed to correct it. After nearly TWO years of Invisalign treatment, the alignment of my smile is extremely crooked. This office made it worse. The spacing in my top teeth is still visible, and now my jaw is misaligned. My teeth curve to the right. They now have me doing 35 more trays to fix my bite. My smile is worse, and Dr. Noor told me some patients take 5+ years of treatment.
I went in to discuss dental bonding a few weeks ago, and Dr. Noor told me I needed a different treatment. The dentist came in and said that I indeed needed dental bonding. I realized Dr. Noor is a con artist and a poor "orthodontist."
I cannot believe the lengths this office went to con me out of thousands of dollars, and now my smile is worse than when I arrived for a consultation two years ago. I emailed them to get my dental records and am still waiting for a reply. I do not trust that they can correct the alignment of my teeth that they ruined. I urge everyone to get a second opinion. This place only...
Read moreI visited this office looking for a referral for an impacted wisdom tooth removal. Dr. Noor referred me to their in house oral surgeon.
When I got to the office on 30 Central Park South, they did a scan that they claimed would cost $450 out of pocket, said they would do it for free....... but then billed my insurance. When the oral surgeon comes in, he speaks to me and says that he can remove it out today and I would need a BONE GRAFT!!! If you know anything about implants, you know that bone graft is only needed when there will be an implant placed there.... it was a wisdom tooth!!! Why would I need bone graft? Anyways, the insurance coordinator comes back in and says $1700... I tell her I can't afford that. She says can you do $1500? I say I can't do that. She called her boss, a man named "Ronny" and he said that my insurance covers $100.. I pressed a bit more and then he said that it covered $300.... This change was all in a matter of SECONDS! They tried to guilt me into getting the procedure when I clearly stated I was not comfortable doing so. I asked if perhaps I could come back at a different time, and they went as far as to say that the oral surgeon wouldn't be available for months and when I came back it would cost even more money... But when I left, they texted me saying that I had to schedule a new appointment to see him right away. It was just beyond sketchy.
They wanted to force me to have the procedure done that very same day that I came in for the consultation, even though I told them I didn't have anyone to take me home and I had eaten not too long ago. They told me I would be fine to go home after the anesthesia!! Who in the world thinks that after anesthesia a 21 year old can get on the MTA train on her own?!? When she lives an hour and half from the clinic??????
I recently had the procedure done at a different doctors office, I only paid $50 out of pocket compared to the $1500 that the Smile Café Dental Spa wanted me to pay. After, I was in no condition to get myself home, thankfully my new doctor wouldn't even begin the procedure until someone of legal age signed as my chaperone. I am so thankful that I looked for a different doctor.
Please DOUBLE CHECK everything that is said to you in this office. Call your insurance! Get a second opinion! If something does not feel right, LEAVE! Do not let them force you...
