My family bought a box of moon cakes @ $45.99, only to find it tasting like something that should be alerted to the health department. This is a brand we've also purchased from in the past, but this year a freshly opened cake smelled off, the yolk tasted strongly of rancid oil, and ingesting a bit caused my mom throat irritation. We only touched a wedge; no more. We called Star Market to see if they could do anything, and a lady on the phone said to bring in for an exchange. She even detailed that they send back unsold moon cakes and could inform them of ours. We went in, our receipt got marked for store credit, shopped around (AVOIDING EXPIRED ITEMS, BY THE WAY), and just as we were about to use store credit, they revoked it, saying it's not their problem if we didn't like the cake. Dude, I stated earlier that taste preference was not an issue; it was straight up inedible! I guess they were hoping to revoke store credit last minute so we'll spend another $45.99 at their store. If they initially said they couldn't do anything, we wouldn't have paid for travel to come back, but we were told to return so that they can fix this. When I couldn't find words to express myself in Chinese and switched to English (my most fluent language), the owner got close to my face and started cursing me out for using English (yes, ignore that we are still dealing with COVID now!). I was shocked at how I was trying to understand his Mandarin and never cursed, but he kept dismissing all reason and erupted threateningly when I tried to express myself in a way I'm naturally comfortable with. He took a picture of me for some reason (I have nothing to hide and did nothing wrong), but when my mom tried snapping a picture of him, he quickly put on sunglasses. Read moreSHOP AT YOUR OWN RISK! Horrible supermarket. Did not provide anything to disinfect the carts or baskets. Did not provide any hand sanitizer as well. If you want to catch COVID, then you are welcome to visit. There are no signs for any social distances or guides for having a mask on, while no shield was used for separating the cashiers and their customers. Customers and employees were not asked wear a mask while it’s about 80% capacity at all time.
It is a very convenient location but it’s not worth the risk. The prices are quite expensive compare to the supermarket across the streets.
