The tour was directed by a retired employee who started at the bottom of the company and came up through the ranks and was eventually head engineer, or something impressive like that. His knowledge on all aspects of piano building was evident and he did a very nice job passing along this information to a group of about 15 of us. Much time was spent discussing different wood varieties and their special nuances. Maybe a little too much detail with the wood. We went through different areas of the factory and watched as the laborers worked on their contribution to the piano. I look forward to hearing from...
Read moreFor either musicians or music lovers of all kinds, this factory maybe one of the ultimate point of worship on earth. I was (fortunately) invited to visit Steinway with my life time best friend, a Julliard grad concert pianist. We were welcomed, and received with professionalism and pleasantry. Sales staffs were well knowledge on the needs of a professional pianist and took time to educate me, a classical piano music lover. Small factory with amazing people and amount of works put into making a piano. Just amazing to see from a simple piece of wood selection into a full grand concert piano. You'll need half a day as a visitor or perhaps a full day as a buyer to sock yourself into the...
