Sunrise of New Dorp — Local services in New York

My family member lives on the memory care floor. There are many wonderful things to say about this place – the grounds and interior are beautiful, the rooms are spacious, everything is brand new, there are plenty of spaces to have private visits with family, toys for visiting kids to play with, a resident dog & cat, and multiple outdoor spaces. There are memory stations to help soothe agitated residents and fidget toys for those who are restless. It feels homey.

But all that would mean nothing if it weren’t for the incredible staff. If anyone on the Sunrise exec team is reading this, please give them a huge raise, double their salaries, give them all the benefits & support they need, whatever it takes so they never leave, especially the memory care team!! My loved one’s care managers, led by the coordinator, are professional and know what they're doing. But more importantly, they (and really the entire team) are kind, compassionate, patient, diligent, and helpful. They treat him and the other residents with respect, empathy, and good humor. They live in their worlds. They not only physically care for residents, but they also try to improve their quality of life – with games, art classes, events, their favorite music (there's never been a time I've visited and classic rock hasn't been playing in his room.) And the incredible activities' manager tailors activities to the hobbies and personalities of the residents.

Alzheimer’s and dementia are awful diseases, and looking after people with memory issues is an incredibly hard job. But the staff not only cares for him, they also care ABOUT him. From the moment I started looking at Sunrise - New Dorp Assisted Living, I knew this would be a great place for mom. April has been nothing short of amazing in making my mom's transition easier than I could imagine. My mom was warmly greeted by various staff members on the 1st day, ensuring her that she would be well taken care of. Everyone at Sunrise (staff and residents) have been great ! Mom is so happy to be there and is excited about all of the activities that she can participate in. Great place, great people !!!

Recently had my aunt living at Sunrise of New Dorp on the memory care floor. I can’t think of a better place other than home where I would have liked her to live. The staff took such great care of her and treated her with dignity and respect during her last days here. Many of the staff even attended her funeral services which showed how much they cared not just for her but for our family.
