I recently booked a deep tissue massage for my girlfriend with Cat, who did an incredible job. My girlfriend was thoroughly impressed by Cat’s skill, attentiveness, and professionalism—she came out of the session feeling amazing and completely relaxed.
Unfortunately, our overall experience was overshadowed by uncomfortable interactions with the staff. When we arrived, I rang the doorbell, and someone came to greet us. As I held the door open for my girlfriend to enter, I was stopped at the threshold and questioned about whether I had an appointment. I explained that I was there with my girlfriend and asked if they needed anything further from me since my card was already on file. At the time, I assumed the strictness might have been about maintaining a private, peaceful environment, so I let it go.
Later, I returned a few minutes before my girlfriend’s session ended, waiting outside with our son while he finished a snack. Another patron arrived, rang the doorbell, and was allowed inside without hesitation, but when I approached and politely asked to wait in the lobby, I was sharply told no. After explaining that my girlfriend was receiving a massage, the staff member’s demeanor shifted, and she reluctantly allowed us to come in out of the cold.
While Cat’s expertise provided a wonderful experience for my girlfriend, I found the interactions with staff off-putting and inconsistent. I’m left wondering whether these exchanges were standard practice or indicative of something else. I hope the establishment takes this feedback to ensure all customers feel...
Read moreI was an LMT about 10 years ago before coming to NYC and have been searching for a place that fit my very high standards for just as long. I chose Opal in a panic as I’d thrown my back out and I am SO glad I did! I have had a deep tissue and a THAI massage and they were both wonderful. Draping was professional, I was communicated with about my needs and preferences and my therapists checked in with me throughout with pressure and comfort without being “chatty”. I left feeling good, satisfied, and knowing I’d return.
It is not a spa or salon with massage as an option but is a space designated only for massage. I love that! Their prices are reasonable especially since their sessions are 70 minutes as opposed to the usual 50/60 min.
My one critique is that there are artificial fragrances used in the bathroom. A plug-in air freshener and an oil feed diffuser. I suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and so using their facilities was uncomfortable for me. Their linens and oils are all natural and free of fragrances so I was at least comfortable during...
Read moreBeen going to Opal for a year now, Jun has been my masseuse from day 1. If I wasn’t moving out of state I’d still be showing up for my appointments! Jun is an outstanding, diligent, detailed, and very talented masseuse. I came to her with chronic piriformis syndrome that had caused nerve damage down my leg, plus old shoulder blade injuries, and more. Prior to Opal my pain was such that three years of very good acupuncture couldn’t quite get the job done, nor could six months of physical therapy… then came Jun! It took her about 12 sessions to make some serious headway, and only a few more to make major breakthroughs. Perhaps as important as healing my physical pain was Jun's body work also healed a crisis of confidence that had quietly set-in whereby I thought my chronic pain was just not able to be healed. Thank you so much Jun, you saved the day,...
