Its been over a year since saying yes to my ceremony vera wang wedding dress...and I have to start my alterations soon. I am a covid bride...engaged since 2019 finally having the wedding March 2022. I know everyone was trying to do there best. I also come from a fashion back-round and appreciate designer apparel more than the average customer would. Maybe that is why I have expected hire standards? I still feel uncertain and have remaining anxiety or unease on how my experience or rest of the process will be with their team because of loosing my real trust in the beginning. They tried to make things better and apologize that its not the vera wang way but still...I feel like they are loosing there touch in client experience and have some work to do in reassuring a bride they are truly & genuinely their for them in this process.
I had such high hopes for the Vera Wang name and expected to be delighted and overjoyed with more of a luxury experience (like Chanel, Dior, Fendi etc.). My 1st appointment went well. I like to know the details and understand what to expect - so I asked my associate about any other charges or fees to keep in mind for the dress & accessories I tried by email. I was given prices and then alterations fee.
My Associate was friendly, personably, encouraging and nice during each appointment. She is genuinely helpful and I enjoyed her vibe while working together. I ended up coming back a 2nd time since I could not stop thinking about the dress and how I felt seeing myself in it. I came back with someone from my family & in my mind feeling hopeful and wanting to say yes at the end of that appointment ...& I did...but then I felt so much uncertainty leaving. But then I had request to cancel the same night I said yes...I was having major uncertainty and cant go forward.
Why the uncertainty? a manger I had never even been introduced too came out with the contract. It had a bunch of additional fees & costs added on / changed when final contract came out. The minimum* alterations fee increased by an additional $250 compared to the original alterations fee price I was given. And 3 - 4 additional pattern fees got added - Never suggested, mentioned, or recommended during trying on the dress but just totaled & added on when a manager brought out the final contract to sign. I asked her to explain the fees in more detail because they where only bullet points with charges next to them. Naturally Seeing over an additional $1000 + added extras to the base cost off the dress you would ask. The manager had an irritated attitude when I asked her to go over them. Generally luxury high end managers are poised, calm, collected and solution oriented. My family member spoke up & shared that I went to design school and have 6 years of working in nyc as a hired designer so I know a bit about it ...if they could just explain we would appreciate it. I know what pattern adjustments require & I wanted to make sure they made sense / if they effected the overall construction of the dress or not ...and if it was something that would be handled in final alterations which I was already paying for. It felt like they are just adding all extra fees where they can to make more money and commission off the sale. I know everyone was trying to do their best but I felt the knowledge on dresses and process should be impeccable when it is a prestigious brand. My dress was canceled & after an extra few months of looking around I came back and ordered the dress again because I still loved it...this time I had to pay a production rush fee of $300. My wedding date got canceled and I let them know right away to see if there is anyway to stop working and avoid the rush fee - because I now have over a year for my dress...after a delayed reply and lots of follow up said no sorry It was not possible ...even though the dress still was not coming for another 6-7 weeks. And I did not need it for over a year. I still feel uncomfortable and now this is my dress experience. I hope no other bride goes through this - it should be positive &...
Read moreI cannot speak highly enough for the Vera Wang bridal team in New York City. They deserve the loudest praises for their unmatched care. They made me feel heard, beautiful, and completely at ease every step of the way.
The Shopping & Purchase: The NYC Vera Wang team provided a magical experience from start to finish. I had my bridal appointment with Lori S, an individual with 20+ years of experience alongside Vera. She made sure I never felt rushed, let me browse before trying on, and never limited me on the number of dresses I could try or retry on. I did 10 bridal appointments that weekend throughout the typical couture spots, and the experience at Vera Wang was by far the best.
I fell in love with two dresses and Lori was very communicative and accessible every step of the way.
The Alterations: The alterations team really stole my heart. I worked with Sophia and Sofia, also over 20 years of experience with Vera, and put simply — they were a dream. For context, I’m not easy: I changed the color on one of my dresses, completely reshaped another, was particular about specifically leaves on my bolero and my waistline, and even moved up the “finish” date by weeks — all without a single issue or pushback by the team. They executed perfectly too, and communicated quickly and constantly every step of the way.
The Vera Wang NYC team has a talent and precision that I’ve found to be unmatched. I’ve spent a lot throughout this process (150+ person destination wedding in Italy 🫠), and no other vendor or designer has executed the way they have. Kudos to them! What an incredible, magical experience.
Hope this helps any other bride in their dress deciding process!
PS: I’ve moved out of New York after getting engaged and flew back to do the alterations with the NYC team. They’re...
Read moreI was beyond disappointed after my trip to this salon. I had been looking forward so so very much to my trip to New York to try on the most beautiful, unique wedding gowns ever created and my consultant was awful and completely unhelpful. I can't believe anyone, no matter how rich and famous they are, should allow their customers to be treated so rudely. They wouldn't agree to any alterations. All I wanted was a straight across neckline modified to a sweetheart, and it was like I was insulting Vera's design. I was told "Vera won't want to make it that way" and dismissed. When I made it clear that it was a sticking point for me (the neckline was really really unflattering the way it was) I very sadly walked out; I am not paying $7,000 for a dress that's not exactly the way I want it! I knew how expensive these gowns were going to be, I was prepared, but how can you refuse to work with your clients? The worst part was that I kept getting e-mails from my consultant about whether or not I wanted to buy the dress and I kept telling her no because it wasn't going to be the way I wanted it but she didn't get the hint. She was rude and at the same time wouldn't stop trying to get me to buy the dress... Really?? How do you expect to make money like that?! Also best of luck trying to get a dress to fit you if you are above a size 6. DO NOT write off Vera Wang gowns, but do not go to this flagship store. And arrange to get alterations somewhere else (I recently saw the dress I wanted with the neckline I wanted... obviously she did not get her gown at the...
