Came for the Donald Judd exhibit while visiting NY for frieze and nada. Both the exhibition and space are spectacular, and highly recommended as a visit. My only gripe is that the security team is extremely overbearing. Be careful not the breathe too close to the art. I had taken some shots of Judd’s work in the first gallery on film, however while in the space on the lower level, I was told by security that photos from a camera were strictly forbidden and that I could only take photos on a smartphone. I told them that there’s no flash which is typically the justification, however I was told that it’s a quality concern. Apparently the gallery would prefer the public to use a smartphone rather than a dedicated SLR or DSLR with professional lense setups because the quality is clearly better. They don’t want the photos to turn out badly and then be...
Read moreA serendipitous find on Madison avenue walking out of the Met - this was just what was needed to recover from the shortage of Picasso paintings currently in display there. Having visited the Picasso museum in Paris just the week before it was the best find possible to satisfy the craving for this master's oeuvre. The visit is free of charge. The left most elevator will take you directly to the gallery. Make sure to get the outline papers at the entrance - there are no notes by the paintings. This makes for quite a frustrating visit - there are no guides, just severe looking guards making sure you're not taking any photos. Still, this is a free opportunity to see some of Picasso's best works of art and in an unique context - would...
Read moreI was excited to see the Cy Twombly pieces because he was the favorite of my favorite philosophy (we focused on aesthetics) professor at Wellesley College. The gallery begins on the 6th floor and continues down to the 5th, spanning 3 rooms. The reception staff is not especially helpful (or at all), and the security is downright rude, especially in the 3rd room. They demanded that I leave my bag on the floor unattended while I examined the artwork. On the 3rd floor, I wasn't even allowed to leave it within eyesight. The guard was downright...
