Zami Caterers — Local services in New York

The Sunday brunch food was delicious, as were the desserts. We had a small group Friday night and the food was once again quite good with excellent salmon, tufo, and delicate meat. Shabbat lunch was also quite good but the desserts were poor. Sunday night we had a party for our daughter's friends and there was tons of food- mostly quite good as well.

Unfortunately, there were a few serious problems.

The bat mitzvah girl is allergic to Sesame and Zami had it at two meals so she could not eat. Zami was told repeatedly about this and ignored it or did not have sufficient supervision. The bat mitzvah girl also made a specific request for desserts which was simply not present.

Also, Zami were supposed to arrange for chairs to be delivered before Shabbat and they did not come which Zami blamed on the chair rental company even though it was obviously their responsibility to coordinate the delivery. There were several other problems (for example on Shabbat the fish was put out for lunch about 4 hours before the meal, which seems far too early), including how they handled these issues. Although the food was really quite good, overall sense is that Zami sits down with you asking what you would like and then they simply do what they want.

Finally, the mashgiach did not speak English (only hebrew) and the staff members did not speak English (not hebrew). Obviously, supervising that it is kosher under these circumstances seems like a joke.

Would we recommend the food. Yes, especially the Sunday brunch food! Would we recommend the service. Nope and b/c of that we would probably not...

Zami catering catered my daughters batmitzvah three weeks ago in NYC at Studio450. My friend recommended him and I can't thank her enough. They brought in all the furniture, decoration, drinks and clearly the food. It was out of this world! Everything was beyond amazing from the napkins to flowers and candles, cocktail, food and desserts. They provided endless amounts of food, beautiful variety and added multiple dishes and desserts. The decoration was sophisticated and gorgeous. The food kept coming and was so delicious. Joey Zami was fantastic to deal with and was highly professional. His generousity was evident throughout the event and everything they provided exceeded all my expectations. I don't get the bad reviews and I highly recommend this company. We recently hired this caterer to cater a wedding and I don't like to write bad reviews so I will start with the positives: David was pleasant to work with during the planning phase.. Food quality was excellent and pricing was very good. Unfortunately the whole experience was killed by horrible service. Smorg was set up on one wall, and wait staff was so inexperienced they could not handle the crowd, and lines were soooo long just to get some food. At dinner each table was supplied with 2 water bottles for 10 people, and no additional water was able to be obtained. The guests were instructed to get water from the bar!
