Mega Deal Mart — Local services in Newark

Bought one new and one “open box” item from here. I should have looked over the open box item before leaving with it but trusted the owner since he looked it over. It was missing a part to it. Was told I could get an exchange but then said they don’t have anymore in stock and said they’ll have new shipments in a few weeks. Waited and then was told they won’t be getting anymore in anytime soon.

Also, be cautious about the pricing. It’s not the best deals but most items are at a small discount from Costco. Most of the items are not marked so if you ask for the price, write it down. I was told one price in the beginning, continued browsing the store, then at the end when I was checking out, was told the price is something else (higher). There are also other open box/used items that are almost the same price as getting it at Costco for brand new. Make sure you check the items first before leaving even if it looks like it’s new and sealed in the box.

Overall I don’t think I’ll be back. The customer service can definitely be improved and the price transparency/ price switch was a real...

Like a lot of people, I stopped by Mega Deal Mart because my TikTok feed was flooded with people saying it’s the best hidden gem ever. I was curious, hopeful… but honestly, kind of let down.

Most of the items looked used or like returns from Costco or Amazon — boxes were opened, some things were mismatched, and there wasn’t much rhyme or reason to the setup. The prices weren’t much cheaper than what you’d pay at Costco, except there you get a solid return policy and warranty. Here? Not so much.

Also, there was a little kid (super cute and clearly the owners’ child) running around the store and talking to customers more than the actual employees. It gave more “family garage sale” than “bargain store.”

It’s not the worst place ever, but if you’re expecting major deals or brand-new finds, you’re better off just heading to Costco or shopping online. TikTok had me...
