It has taken me 2 months to be able to provide feedback and write this review. This was my first baby and I wish I had better things to say. I had an AWFUL experience with HOAG. I work in veterinary medicine and our patients are treated better than I was treated here. I was induced at 41 weeks. When I went in for my SCHEDULED induction on 7/10/25 at midnight, I was told by the head nurse that I needed to go home and theyâd call when there was a bed available. I live 35-40 minutes from the hospital but chose it because I thought it was âthe bestâ. This head nurse was extremely rude. I had a balloon placed on 7/9 (just 7 hours earlier) at my OBGYN, which was very uncomfortable. After sitting in the waiting room just crying because of the poor treatment off the bat, discomfort from the balloon, and being 41 weeks pregnant ready to have my baby, the nurse came back out and assigned me a bed. They had plenty of rooms open as I passed them in the hallway. Once I was in my room, none of the nurses could properly perform a cervical check on me and each time was excruciatingly uncomfortable. After about 12 hours, the medications had caused too much contracting (which I expected). After several more hours in labor, I had requested a c-section as I trusted my body and knew it would end that way. Due to family history of c-sections and what my brother suggested as he works at an OBGYN in another state, I knew a c-section would be best. The doctor on call that day, Dr.Alison Wu was awful. She was very cold and was basically telling me to âtough it upâ. She refused to see me unless I had an epidural (in which I got) and she denied me the option for a c-section. Fast forward to midnight on 7/11, so Iâm about 30 hours into this labor process (including the ballon placement - which by the way does not work). I was pushing for 3 hours and then all of a sudden it became an EMERGENCY c-section. All of this could have been avoided and if something had happened to my baby or myself, HOAG would be sorry. Awful nurses throughout the process, and an awful doctor, Alison Wu. If I had known my own doctor wasnât going to deliver my baby this whole time, I would have changed my PCP months ago. Iâm a very positive, kind, happy review writing person. But this experience has caused a lot of trauma. My baby and I are okay because of Dr.Kenneth James who was absolutely amazing, and the 2 nurses I had that night, Ryan and Caitlyn. Those were the 3 people I was truly thankful for my entire experience. Dr.Kenneth James made me feel so comfortable and I completely trusted him throughout the process. Ryan and Caitlyn, amazing nurses. Recovery nurses were not very nice. Donât work in medicine if you donât want to KINDLY take care of people đđ». $42,000 to be treated poorly and not listened to is sure not the way I will do it in the future. I will be changing my PCP with insurance and going to another hospital/doctor if I ever have another baby again. HOAG has been blowing my email up asking for feedback,...
Read moreWow - where do I even begin..
Iâm a first time mom and this was not the first choice of hospital - I believed I was having an emergency so we figured we should just go to the nearest hospital. I was having terrible contractions.. when we showed up to labor and delivery I informed them that I was high risk - I then saw all of the nurses smirk at each other and roll their eyes as if I was bothering them.. my first nurse was pretty nice but not very informative on what was going on. I was asking questions and not getting answers - mostly âI donât knowsâ
Then the worst OBGYN DR think Iâve EVER dealt with came in. I believe her name was DR. Diaz? Anyway, ignored most of my questions- made me and my fiancĂ© feel stupid.. was not caring in the slightest bit.. she actually made me cry.
I was so confused the entire time on what was going on⊠then dealt with a medication they gave me to stop contractions which made me extremely shakey (they did tell me to expect that) but when we asked the nurse how long that would happen for - she acted annoyed and gave us a snotty remark again.. no real answer to put my mind at ease. She didnât even help me out of the bed into my wheelchair- my fiancĂ© had to help me with just about everything.
To wrap this up.. we dealt with one more nurse who wanted to give me a pill to which I responded âwill it be okay with the other medication Iâm onâ again Iâm a high risk patient I have seizures from brain cancer I had a few years backâŠ
This nurse was visibly upset and annoyed and responds with âwell I donât know I donât know what your onâ rolls her eyes and looked it up on the computer.
We then have to deal with another new OBGYN dr which I was happy about because I did NOT a want to see dr. Diaz again⊠but unfortunately this Dr was not any better - didnât really answer any questions and then pretty much scolded us for coming to hoag because itâs not our hospital and they donât know anything about me. So next time donât come here basically..
Honestly it was a nightmare and I feel TERRIBLE for anyone who has to deal with that mess⊠find a different place to have your baby and have a pleasant experience. Negative 0 stars and left with a little bit of ptsd to be real honest. Seems to me youâre just a number to them here - I canât imagine actually having to give birth with...
Read moreIts been a little over 2 weeks since I had my baby at Hoag NB. Some of these reviews are negative so I wasnt sure what to expect but I personally had the best experience. I elected for c section due to personal reasons but was still very nervous about it bc it is a major surgery. 5th floor check in was a little confusing but that was the "worst" part. The staff was really helpful and friendly providing directions when I did get lost initially. Then after check in, the nursing staff on the 5th floor was so friendly and tried to make me as comfortable and not nervous as possible. My anesthesiologist, Rishi and ob, Catalin were so great. The operation went better than I could've imagined. I had no issues or complications. Rishi provided status of what was going on and when things were wrapping up. Truthfully, everything is a blur... and everything happened fairly quickly so I can't recall details with baby. My husband was able to hold him immediately after he was born. I think I held him maybe 30 min or 1 hr after. After he got his vaccines... 7th floor for recovery was also great. All the nurses were really friendly... some were more attentive than others but they were all supportive and helpful. I can't remember anyone's names unfortunately but everyone from 5th and 7th were great. The bed wasn't the most comfortable and food was ok but it works. The hospital has everything you would need for yourself and the baby. I really loved the swaddles they had...too bad we couldn't take any home. They were nice and thick. We received a lot of help with diaper changes, breastfeeding, formula when I didn't produce and baby weight went down, first bath, circumcision/umb core care, water and pain meds provided constantly. I really don't have any complaints. For parking, paid for 7 day vs the daily to...
