Love Newport Rubber Mats! I've been playing golf here since 2005 & the course had changed a lot since then.
1st - It's one of the only executive courses in the area that I know of - other than David L Baker in Fountain Valley. (Executive Courses, for those that don't know: have only Par 3 & Par 4 holes. No 5s. Holes range from 80ish yards to about 260).
2nd - they now have golf carts, some holes you can even hit off grass, they took down the massive & annoying fence on the 4th hole & some of the holes even have a couple T'boxes you can choose to hit from.
The price has gone up since they got golf carts & have some T'boxes on grass... All done after the new owner took over.
Honestly, I always thought it was a cheap price for what it is, so I'm glad they hiked up their prices... To a degree. They deserved more, but even with the golf cart price added in to the green fees, now, it is just a litttttttle bit over-priced for what the course is.
**I know that's a back/forth statement about the Course's pricing but I had to mention it, at the least. Yes, I think the price shouldve gone up. But since the prices are higher, the golf carts & T'boxes don't justify it. In my mind - the price should be reflected on the course's maintenance. And a lot of the course isn't very well maintained. **I must say here -- I still love this course! It's fun. Hole layout is fun. Some holes are quite challenging. *It's just... the fairways, areas surrounding the greens & even some greens specifically... Theres dead grass (more so than I remember), a lot of areas where they either don't want to maintain or choose to "let go" & it's just like someone's poorly maintained backyard...
All that said -- It's not toooo Expensive. It's just a couple dollars over-priced for having not very well-maintained the full course.
Fortunately for Newport Golf Course, none of this/my opinion matters. They seem to be busy anyway & I'm happy they are! I just hope, after they take that higher income for a while, that they'll maintain the course a little better... And then NOT bike the price again :-)
Either which way shape or form - I'll be golfing here for many more years to come... Unless the price goes so far that I could play a full course for...

Unfortunately this place treats its regulars bad now. After many years I will not go again.
There are So many drunk people from Og pizza as well. Golf at your own risk. People hitting into you is not frowned upon.
I had been an active supporter of this place but the starters ruined it. Management had no answered when I confronted them about what was really going on.
If you want to golf here Yiu can get away with pretty much anything that non traditional golfers do. Hit into the group in front because your a lazy punk in a hurry and friends with a starter, harass the good customers like you own it.
What a joke.
Golf etiquette does not exist.
I’ve even been assaulted. No security.
Long time customer gone.

I have been coming here for 20 years. The new owners are committed to putting money into the course and the conditions have never been better. I hear a ton of people bad mouth this place. They need to find a private club if they are that snotty. Peggy is very nice to my group and myself. The staff and I have become friends. I have also met some of my best friends in life at this course.everyone there is nice and that’s no easy task with as many complainers I see there...pace of play is what it is when you can walk up and golf just about any time.
Big props to this place. My friends and I love going there and we love the people who do a great job running the place. Shaun, Peggy, Hugh, Danny, Aiden, Liam, and so many others...
Read moreI'm not much of a critic, but all I can say is that the condition of the course is terrible, and so the management. One time we were playing and we didn't pay the spectator fee, at that time we didn't know there was a spectator fee. After about 12 holes, a employee came to us, and yelled at us for not paying. There was no sign on the pro shop, and the employees didn't ask us if we had spectators. The management was not nice about it either, the first thing they said was, "Can you speak chinese?" That is not what the management of the course should say, we apologized but the management still wasn't friendly. After the round, we went to the pro shop, in order to pay for the spectator fee. The pro shop accepted the money, however they threatened that they would call the police if we came back to the course again. On the course, there were a lot of patches of dirt and sand, as well as divots surrounding the green, they really need to replace their mats as well. Overall, medicore course, but TERRIBLE management, I'm NEVER going there again, I warn you of doing anything that the management does not like because you may end up in my situtation ; getting threatened if we ever...
