I again recently utilized the services of M’s Tailor (located in Newport, MN). I had, in years past, previously utilized this business and was pleased then with the services provided, and I still am. The ownership is new from before and is now different from my previous utilization of this business, and while the previous owner was terrific, the new owner is absolutely wonderful!!!!! She is accurate in her assessment of what needs to be done with a garment to reach the customer’s desired end result. She possesses a calm and confident demeanor, is communicative, friendly, helpful, highly skilled in her abilities, knowledgeable in the area of tailoring, a pleasant person with whom to deal, and timely in her completion of the newly tailored end product. Key to success in achieving the desired end result of your tailored garment, requires you, the customer do some of your own legwork and research. This means and requires, that you, the customer purchase, the necessary item{s} and bring in with you the specialty item{s} required (such as specialty threads{—e.g. metallic threads), specialty decorative elements/trim(—e.g,. rick rack) and specialty fabrics. The owner will return your unused self-provided items back to you upon completion of the tailoring job. Prior to taking in one of my garments for alteration, I had done my own legwork and research, and provided her, M’s Tailor’s (newest:/current) owner with the necessary items to achieve the desired end result of the tailoring job—and my newly tailored item turned out absolutely wonderfully!!!!! Additionally, her price{s} for her work are provided up-front—ahead of any work to be performed. They are very fair. I have other garments which need tailoring, and as I am extremely pleased with the results of my last set of alterations she performed, I definitely plan to return to M’s Tailor for other item alterations. I give her the highest rating (🌟s), and I highly recommend this business.
Update to my previous review above posted in 2024: I am a forever a return customer to M’s Tailor, as very much earlier this year—2025–the proprietor again excelled in meeting my expectations in multiple further alterations I had her perform! Just a short while ago today, Tuesday, 11/4/2025, on my way home from an appointment and errand running in the greater Twin Cities metro area, I stopped into her tailor shop with a need for my winter coat to be repaired, which was one of my intended errand running stops. I showed her the problem—a split on the outside seam of my coat. She astutely evaluated the problem and deftly and quickly repaired it on-the-spot. Additionally, she made a full inspection of the coat, and identified a second smaller seam split on the coat’s opposite side—a split which I had not known existed. She quickly repaired that split on-the-spot, as well. I was unexpectedly able to take my coat home with me upon the completion of the repairs—just in time for the approaching cold snap. She is GREAT(!!), and is the absolute best tailor that I have...
Read moreIn all honesty, I will not return to this alteration shop due to failed customer service. Let me explain why.
So I called the alteration shop and the owner already sounds mad by saying " hello who is this"? Professionally she should have said " Hi M's Tailor".
I said "Hi I have dress that I would like to get fix. I just bought it for an event I have tonight. I need it shorten. I want to see if you would be able to fix it? The dress is 1 layer."
Her response was "umm you need it tonight? I don't know if I can fix it. Did you call other places to see if they can fix it? I guess you can bring it over, and let me see if I can fix it."
I said "ok I can bring it over". I bring my dress to shop. I try on my dress. The owner's attitude was just horrible. She says "oh even though this dress is 1 layer, this material is super hard to fix. Have you brought your dress to someone else to fix?" Again I said to the owner "no I haven't called or brought my dress to anyone else".
She kept complaining about the fabric and how difficult it is to fix it. She starts pinning and then tells me "ok I can fix it but it cost $65 are you ok with that or not?" I said "umm oh ok."
As I left the shop, I thought to myself in the last 15 years of getting pants and dresses fix, I've never paid $65 for 1 layer hemming. The most I have ever paid for same day hemming was $40.00. In addition the fabric was not fancy fabric or special fabric that needed to be hemmed by hand.
Anyhow, so I forgot to check the time and it's 615pm. The owner of the alteration shop calls me and says "are you coming to get your dress? If not I am leaving home."
If she was professional and had good customer service, she should of said "Hi this is M's Tailor calling. We have your dress ready for pick up and was wondering if you were on your way as our shop is closing soon."
Anyways, I said "oh I am sorry I had to pick up my daughter and forgot to look at the time. I will come right now."
I live about 10 minutes from the shop. I arrive and the owner says "how can you forget your dress? Didn't you say you have to wear it tonight?" I said "Yes I just forgot to look at the time. I had to go pick up my daughter from school. Our event is around 745pm."
All I can say is the previous owner of M's Tailor was wonderful, kind, and flexible. Most importantly her customer service was great. Never ever had customer service issues.
But this new owner is horrible. I will not be a returning customer. Not only is her pricing ridiculous. She does not have nor care for customer...
Read moreMy sister and I took our bridesmaid dresses to M's Tailor to get them altered for my other sister's wedding. M did not take any measurements, which we thought was odd. My sister's dress was a little too small in the torso when it came, and M told us we had to return/exchange it and that she couldn't fix it. I know very little about sewing, and I had to suggest to her that she take some of the extra fabric from the bottom of the dress and add it to the torso to enlarge it. Not impressed that I was the one to have to suggest that. When we picked up the dresses, mine fit okay, but my sister's still didn't fit well (presumably because M didn't take measurements). The dress is still too tight in the torso and the straps are too long. Added to that, she charged no small fortune to alter them. Now, we have to take my sister's dress to another tailor to fix it. We will not be going to M's...
