Try to avoid Massachusetts if possible. Not just exclusive to this service plaza, I meant this comment for Massachusetts entirely, with the exception of passing through it. New Hampshire seems to be on the same trend though. I guess passing through these states is the sacrifice you have to endure to reach the tranquility of Maine(maybe not so much in the winter months). Still seems like getting snowed in and unable to safely drive a semi out of Maine is not that bad, as long as you are getting paid by your company a flat daily pay rate in addition to an expanded per diem rate to compensate you for following their strict safety policies. Just be sure you have stocked up on food, water, and other supplies. And if your per diem pay isn’t very satisfactory, make them reimburse you for those items as they are products purchased for the truck, and by extension, you are technically part of the truck. If they give you that line “why is it necessary for us to reimburse you for a case of water”, you counter with, “can my truck safely function without me?”, then “and am I able to drive and function at 100% while being dehydrated?”. There isn’t much they can say after that since you would be stating it is all in the name of safety. Any recourse or consequences would put the company in direct violation of FMCSA regulations 390.6...
Read moreThis place is horrible.. Are there ANY friendly people in Newton Massachusetts? Ok, forget friendly, some professional conduct would be a good place to start first. McDonald's and Honey dew donuts had some of the most depressed, miserable, unprofessional and rude employee's I've ever seen, most of them were hard to understand and they had a hard time understanding me, my husband and I went in to get an ice cream cone... The guy took our order wiped his nose with his hand then proceeded to get our cones, I was horrified and didn't say anything due to the fact that earlier when we had lunch my husband had ordered the large combo meal and got a medium order of fries with it instead of large fries, so he went to the counter and mentioned that he paid for the large combo only to have the girl at the counter that took our order begin to argue with him and said we ordered the medium, she stopped when I walked over the receipt and showed it to her, I know it's only fries, but the lack of customer service here is ridiculous, not to mention their health code practices or lack of I should say is a joke, if I were you I would stay clear...
Read moreDecent place to stop.
Pros: Lots of bathroom stalls. McDonald's. Honey Dew Donuts (They make good frozen drinks). Small gas station like store.
Cons: Somewhat dirty. Outside needs more trash cans, especially near truck parking as people are just throwing bags of trash out there and no one picks them up. There seems to be an infestation of flys everywhere. They are in the bathrooms, all over McDonald's and Honey Dew. No one wants flys all over restaurants where they are going to eat...super unsanitary. Prices around here are absolutely outrageous, not only for gas but food, drinks and anything else you find here is over priced. They are kind of taking advantage of people, which is disappointing.
There are no real truck stops around so as a driver it would be nice if this place offered showers and laundry. Some travelers have no options around here and this place is plenty big enough to offer more.
They need to hire a deep cleaning crew to come in and clean EVERYTHING...
