I rarely leave reviews, but today’s experience truly warranted one. I made time for this appointment during an especially busy day and week, hoping for a relaxing and restorative break. Unfortunately, what should have been a stress-free experience ended on a surprisingly uncomfortable note.
The appointment itself was okay — I’d rate it 6 out of 10. It wasn’t exceptional, but I appreciated the ability to book a last-minute session and found the staff to be pleasant. When checking out, I politely commented that the service was “okay” and tipped 18%, which I consider a fair and standard amount, especially for a deep tissue session. I typically tip 20% or more when the service exceeds expectations.
I did not expect any feedback or issue, but the person at the front desk — who confirmed he was the manager — suggested I should tip more. Wanting to ensure I understood correctly, I asked him to clarify, and he repeated several times that services like this shouldn’t be tipped based on a percentage like in restaurants. When I asked directly if he was telling me to tip more than 18%, he said yes.
I was taken aback. This kind of pressure at checkout felt highly inappropriate and unprofessional. In all my years of booking appointments like this, I’ve never been told that a tip I gave — particularly one that was fair — was insufficient. There is also a note that I’ve seen in past, at the front desk suggesting tip amounts significantly above 20%, which I found to be excessive.
It’s important to note that in Massachusetts, gratuities are entirely voluntary unless a mandatory service charge is clearly disclosed in advance. Suggesting or pressuring customers to tip above their chosen amount, especially after the service has been rendered, is not only uncomfortable — it contradicts the spirit of fair customer choice.
As someone who has visited this establishment multiple times and was simply seeking a peaceful hour of self-care, I left feeling disappointed and uneasy. Tipping should always be at the customer’s discretion and based on the quality of service received — without pressure, guilt, or instruction from staff and certainly not management.

The massage human was excellent. The front desk woman, Isabella , was not the friendliest . With choices to spend money everything should be on point. The customer service was not . Upon walking in , I was able to book a service . I approached the customer service agent , she didn’t not even say, hello . However, I still gave the place a shot . Since the service was excellent from the masseuse. They close, at 9pm and it was not 6pm. I asked if I could get an added scalp message; she said “no “. Because, I stepped out of the message area . ( I felt like stepping my foot back in , that’s how close I was to being back in, physically literally . ) I even offered to pay full, price, not the add on service . She still said“ no “. No customer service flexibility to accommodate the customer, yikes 😬 ! She whispered basically when she spoke . I had to pull my head near her mouth to hear her . I speak assertively and with volume so you can hear me . She told me to lower my voice . ( I was out of massage area when I spoke . Because I understand it’s a Spa 🧖♀️ and you want to respect the relaxation vibe.) I found this offensive because this is how I talk . I also feel it was culturally insensitive. I also only spoke to pay for , my service, and leave a $30 tip cash for my message human. Because , he was excellent . She also was rushing me out . I did not feel welcomed . I was made to feel uncomfortable . This customer service experience dimmed my light on the great message. , I definitely will not be returning here.
