I walked in one afternoon after a visit to the post office next door and a quick look into the window of this former pizza place. I noticed how pristine the interior looked. I had to go in. When I entered a nice gentleman greeted me with a friendly hello and said check out our menu and let me know if you have any questions. What a nice welcome ! While the pizzas were pulling at me I decided on ordering a sub. I ordered a Turkey sub and I’m pretty specific on what I like on it. When I said cheese the same nice man asked me if Provolone would be good. I knew this place was a good choice for lunch. The sandwich was perfectly balanced with all I asked for. The Turkey was actually real roasted Turkey not some fabricated mystery meat. . While I waited for my toasted sandwich the engaging man behind the counter conversed with me about the style of pizza they make. It’s South Shore Bar Pie (SSBP) style. That’s pretty sensational here in Newton. I’m a pandemic pizzaiola from the South Shore and make my own pies. I’m obsessed with the process and from time to time make SSBP in 10 inch pans but these guys wisely make them in 14 inch pans. That’s pretty amazing. Why settle for 10s when you can get 14s. This guy is very knowledgeable in the world of pizza. What a great conversation. A revisit for a pizza is on the agenda for next week. But the sub I devoured was also perfection. What an absolute bonus this place is to the Highlands. Yay, I may never make my own lunch again. So many...
Read moreUnfortunately the quality at this place went off a cliff after they went under new management sometime last year. It used to be a 5-star amazing gem of a pizza place, and now the magic is gone and it's totally mid. It's all the small details that changed: they had an amazing orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage, and then after the ownership change they started buying some second-rate green as a substitute for the broccoli rabe (and gaslit me about the change when I asked!). A bunch of other dishes have had minor changes that made them worse, probably in a cost-cutting effort. Perhaps emblematic of the changes: They went from having a very chic white text on black menu board above the registers until the new management replaced this with tacky, awful LED TVs that have burning flames as the background for bright yellow text. Why????? The new guys just don't get it. Total bummer, because we had our local place for life and now we are back to looking again... Ugh.
Anyway, it's fine and average if you need something quick. And the people are still nice, so I feel bad dumping on the place. But it's just not good anymore, and it used to...
Read moreI go here everyday on my lunch break and I am never disappointed - I’ve been to many places around the area and this place had the absolute best subs ever. I’m sure the rest of their food is just as good but if you want a great sandwich order the roasted turkey sub or the steak and cheese sub… I PROMISE you won’t be disappointed. Also the staff are the nicest people in the world
Edit: I was reading the reviews and someone said the steak and cheese was cold? I’ve gotten the steak and cheese sub so many times and if anything it’s wicked hot haha I’d suggest picking it up when it’s ready (when they say your order will be ready in 10 min they...
