Grape Leaf Mediterranean Grille — Restaurant in Newton

We ordered take out from this place because of a friend's recomendation. (In hindsight, I wonder if she wanted to poison us.) Stale food, innacurate order, outrageously high bill. I do not recommend this place.

Messy ordering process. We were first advised to order online as that was the only way they were taking orders due to Covid. We placed order online but it did not go through. Additionally the online order portal items did not match the actual menu posted online. Led to much confusion. Bill came to 90 online - reasonable. (12 items for 4 ppl) The order never went through.

Re-ordering on the phone. We spend about 15 minutes on the phone to repeat the order. Lots of problems with the online portal names not matching the actual menu. When we went to pickup the food, the order did not look right and we received 1 extra item. The bill also came to 130. (12 dishes 4 ppl). So it was completely inaccurate when compared to the original bill.

Stale food. The food was not fresh. Which was surprising because it was Friday night - popular ordering time. We ended up throwing most away. The grape leaf wraps were dry. The meat pie with macaroni was old. The spinach pie tasted moldy. The fallafel balls and pita chips were good. The salad was OK. The soup was ok. Not happy with meal overall. Even our cats didn't...

This is the second time I order and I will never again. I am Greek. I have to say that the food here has NOTHING TO DO with Greek food. I ordered the gyros and received a wrapped soggy mess. The meat inside was chopped up in irregular pieces, and the tomato was also chopped up. REAL Gyros, does not have chopped up pieces of meat, but carved slices, which is why it is called GYROS, because the meat goes around on the spit. Then, I had ordered the dolmades, the vine leaves with meat and rice. There was absolutely no taste, except for the briny vine leaves. The inside has no taste, no seasoning- it was awful. I threw it away. Then, the french fries with kefalotyri cheese, came and they were overcooked, soggy and slightly burned. I threw those away too. The only decent thing was the rice pilaf. Simple, fresh, healthy whole foods. I love the Mediterranean bowls - half rice/Buddha bowl, and half salad, with feta and lots of juicy chicken, and a generous drizzle of a yogurt tzatziki sauce that feels like dressing but a lot healthier. I dropped 7 pounds the week I ate this daily for lunch! Even better, the management is kind - I was having a frazzled day and then realized no wallet, after ordering. The owner told me not to worry, to pay another day. It was a great kindness, and cemented the Grape Leaf as a place with great food and a big heart. This place deserves a special spot in...
