Cacao is a small cafe located in Newton Highlands, specializing in chocolate related confectionery and drinks.

We came in during the afternoon, and it was quite busy but the staff were very accommodating and knew the menu quite well, recommending some things to try out. They had a large assortment of pre-assembled goods to buy, such as chocolate covered nuts, as well as hot chocolate mix.

We tried the hot chocolate and the dulce de leche. The portion size was reasonable for the price, and the chocolate was pretty good. The hot chocolate was made primarily of dark chocolate, which isn't my favorite, but turned out to be a good choice as it cooled down and became more rich.

I stopped by Cacao after a Pilates class next door and was pleasantly surprised! I didn't realize it was a Dominican coffee shop at first, but once I saw the decor, I had a little moment like, "wait a minute, why does all this feel familiar?!" And I may or may not be biased because I'll always support my people

I ordered a buttered croissant and a dulce de leche latte to enjoy there. The space is homey and warm, the kind of place that immediately makes you feel grounded. For a few minutes, it really felt like home, especially seeing touches of my roots reflected in the atmosphere.
