Well today my family member went to the emergency room around 12:00 noon to be seen for chest pain and he was given an EKG and sent back to sent back to sit in the emergency room. About 2 hours later he is still sitting in the emergency room and finally a lady come out and take him in the back for x-rays. After the x-rays he was sent to sit back in the emergency room and wait for someone to call his name. Around 3:30 I finally go to the desk and ask about the results for his EKG and X-ray to be told the nurse would find some information out and help me after he finished assisting his patient. I informed the gentleman working the desk that I would be over there by my family member when he got ready. After waiting for a period of time and not being called....I went back up to the desk to inquire if the nurse was getting the information for us. The gentleman working the desk said he would try and help me since he didn't know where the nurse went to. He (gentleman) informed me that there were 4 patients before us and he would be called after that. Long story short...he finally was called back around 7:00 p.m. and taken back to a room to be seen by the doctor, only to find out that NOONE had been back to check on him. It is now 9:55 p.m. and he still hasn't been seen by a doctor. His girlfriend has been there with him waiting patiently with no lunch, no breaks and no consideration. I am not trying to be mean but this is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure the doctors, nurses and staff got to eat lunch today, take breaks and do whatever they needed to do. My question to the staff...Would you want your loved ones to be treated the way "MY FAMILY" member has been treated? I can answer the question for you (NO). Is he going to have to wait for another shift to be changed before being seen by the doctor? Today, I experienced the salon at the emergency room where they start IV's and then send you back out to have a seat in the emergency room whereas the salon will wet your hair and send you to have a seat in the chair for hours. The difference is, this is someone health opposed to their head. I understand there is a shortage of people but to keep someone waiting for almost another day is "ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!" Let's hope and pray that there is nothing seriously wrong after the long...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe arrived at Norfolk General at 2 am after being transferred from the Outer Banks Hospital. Prearrangements were made between the OBX and NG doctors, and we were told we could get in quicker. Unbeknownst to them, NG was under a mandatory lockdown when we arrived due to a shooting incident. My husband and I had to send our son, who had severely burned his hand with freeon, alone in the middle of an unknown situation. We had to wait in our vehicle in the parking lot for two hours before the lockdown was over while multiple police officers entered and exited the building and drove around the parking lot. Our son sat alone in his room IN PAIN not knowing what was going on around him for two hours. We were able to enter the hospital around 4 am. No one came in to see him until 8:30 am. Throughout the early morning hours, the nurses informed me there were several emergencies that took precedence over my son's burns. I was also informed that a new shift of trauma doctors would be arriving around 6 am. So, why did it take another 2.5 hours for anyone to come to his room? I would periodically ask the nurses why there was still a delay, and I was always given the same answer. After 6.5 hours of waiting and waiting, my patience was VERY thin. The morning trauma doctors were quicker, more thorough, completed their procedures, and we were finally on our way around 11 am.
In the end, NG was the best place for his burn care but not the best hospital in area of time management. Also, the staff should be aware of their surroundings when they're carrying on their own personal conversations and using profanity around patients and families.
All I want is a shower and a nap, and my son to...
