I am actually still in disbelief as I write this as this is just so unbelievable. I have been a member of Evans Fitness Club since before the doors opened in 2012. I have been a loyal member who has promoted the gym, referred numerous people and encouraged current members to treat the facility with respect and I have convinced dissatisfied members wanting to leave to give them a chance to correct the concerns. On Monday, May 13, 2019 I was approached by the “director of personal training” Scott. This was the first time he has ever said anything to me or even acknowledged my existence, even though I see him multiple times a day for months. He asked me to speak to him and sat me down and informed me that my multiple check ins a day was suspicious as well as my multiple different work out partners and that my behavior was “PT like” and that they were suspending my membership. I tried to explain that I am a competitor and I work out 3 times a day (2 separate cardio and 1 training) but he wouldn’t even consider listening to me. I asked how I was in violation of my contract by using the facility multiple times or working out with people and he advised me that it is not but when I am working out with 3 or 4 different people it is a red flag. He indicated that they have been monitoring me and filming me for some time which I asked if there was a concern why would no one come speak to me immediately and either allow me to explain or correct any misconception instead of immediately revoking my membership with no prior discussion or warning. At that time he told me “the Glorious thing about this is someone above me will call you to discuss”. How does someone who is supposed to be customer service and management speak to clients this way… what is “Glorious” about upsetting someone?? The actual reality of this situation is, there are some subpar personal trainers at that facility, who not only put their clients at risk with their lack of knowledge and care but felt threatened by me due to the success I have had personally and that their clients would come to me for tips and advice. It is absolute shame that a gym who preaches health and wellness kicks out a member of the gym for being supportive and aiding other members when asked because they fear it may take away from their personal training business.. which is clearly a joke. Fortunately I recorded the conversation as I didn’t trust for one second what was about to go down. It is a shame to witness first hand how little any one person means to a business and I can not recommend anyone do business with Evans Fitness Center after this sort of treatment and more importantly waste their money on personal training when it is clearly about the amount of PT clients and not about the health, safety or results of any of them. Maybe you should focus on the quality of your trainers and staff and you wouldn’t need to worry about your members outshining you. To top this already horrible situation off, I was told that I would be given the opportunity to speak to someone from the corporate office to share my side but that never happened. No one called me, they deleted my account AND MY HUSBANDS. I was able to track down one of the owner’s contact info and reached out to him. He eventually called me back and I explained the situation, he did indicated that he was going to look into this further but his job is to make sure that members are happy and treated fairly. I even offered to work out solo if it was an issue with me working out with people. He told me that I don’t need to be treated differently that other members and assured me he would be back in touch with me yesterday evening between 8:30 pm-9:00 pm… I never heard back from him. I reached out to him again this morning.. nothing. At this point the gym has debited my account on the 12h, issued no refund nor returned any of my calls or contacts. #evansfitnessclub #efcitstartshere #efc...
Read moreThis is a great gym. Or it was when I joined a couple years ago after another gym closed their local one I went to. EFC has allowed us to continue the same contract as the one from the previous gym and pay the same price and go month to month. EFC is a massive gym! Lots of buff people come here, some in barely there clothing to workout and show off their bodies.
However, like I said, it was very nice in the beginning. When ehs supply chain issues began after the pandemic, EFC began cutting corners. Soap dispensers changed and sometimes would be dish soap and not even in the dispensers on the sinks which would always be empty.
The toilets used to be automatic flush and many have broken and replaced with the manual flush. They have posted signs complaining of costs during tough times and a lack of employees to do the job. So they had signs to hire people, and I even applied, but they either didn't fill it, or they did but nothing changed. I didn't get the job.
They used to be open 24 hours a day with maybe an exception on a day or two. Their front doors still claim open 24 hours a day, yet their hours are definitely not 24 hours a day. They close late and open early instead. So if you're looking for a 24 hours open fitness center, this isn't one of them anymore.
Otherwise they have contracts and tough salespeople. I almost joined when I first moved to the area, but they are very expensive long contracts. The only way I am here is because of the family membership my father and I had at the other gym which closed, and EFC offered to all members of that gym that they'd meet the same contracts as they had there. So here I am.
There are things broken often, but they do have a lot of good workout machines and classes. I love their Les Mills Body Combat class. They have a Smoothie King that opens into the gym for convenience. There also is a "modern aging center" that isn't affiliated with EFC, but it's connected to the building and basically tries to appeal to people looking to appear younger than they are or to use prescribed diet pills.
I enjoy coming mostly every day to at least run. It's probably the biggest and best gym in the area. But it definitely has seen...
Read moreFirst off, make sure to read all the reviews posted on here because the same will likely happen to you. They gym is not bad, but definitely not worth $39.99 a month. Don’t be deceived by the looks on your first visit. We pay $29.99 a month for the membership and $50.00 each year (around October) for some type of maintenance fee we never really get to see. Yes, we have access to all the classes except for cross fit which i would never recommend unless you want a good permanent injury. The $50 annual fee is something they don’t mention too much when you sign up BTW. I’ve been a member for about 2yrs now and here are some of the things that you should know: 1) the bathrooms are not very clean (soap machines always broken/dirty showers); 2) around 85% of the treadmills need new belts (two or three always broken); 3) only 2 out of 15 rowing machines are available to the open public; 4) management is nice at first and not so nice after you become a member; 5) majority of personal trainers seem to have a pretty stuck up attitude unless they train you; 6) EFC will change third party billing companies without telling you, so be prepared to deal with third party for billing issues. Paramount acceptances is the current billing company and will straight up charge you even after you cancel. Make sure to call your credit card unless your fine with filing a dispute.
BLUF: If you sign up, don’t fall for their ridiculous $39.99 membership and free personal training sessions. The free personal training sessions is a tactic that you can read all about in Google. At the end of the day, it’s all about getting you to sign up for a two year contract; and if you are in the military they will try to transfer your membership to some random gym when you PCS instead of cancelling. Four friends of mine had issues cancelling upon receiving PCS/deployment orders. Lastly, if you plan on working out between 5-7pm—be prepared to wait for equipment most of the time. Unless this gym starts using money for better maintenance, it will be a matter of time before people start looking for something...
