There are unexpected firsts in life, and this is a first for me: a confrontation with a store owner. I am thankful that the owner of Yi's showed his temperament before I contracted with him to make my curtains.
SUMMARY OF EVENTS: Having chosen a few fabrics 2 wks earlier, I went back to the store asking for help finding a fabric similar in color but half the price to one that I found rather expensive. (Note to those who have never seen the store: it is a disorganized mess of samples, some hanging on racks, but most in disorganized binders.) The store owner said that he doesn't offer “design services” and went on and on pushing his point. In response to any questions or comments I made, he had even longer explanations and excuses. He wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise and insisted that he finish talking before I could speak! He wanted me to hear him out, but I really didn't care about justifications for something I did NOT ask for: “design services.”
Feeling uncomfortable and seeing that the conversation was leading nowhere, I wanted to leave the store fast, but first I wanted the owner to email me quotes he had previously given me. He continued rattling on, so I cut him off and asked that he listen to a request I have because “the customer is always right.” He was visibly pissed. I asked him to email me the quotes. He took my name and looked it up in his computer. He was still pissed. He had more to say. So I asked him to proceed. He shrugged his shoulders like a little kid and slumped in his chair.
CONCLUSION: Most likely it is true that this business employs people with great talent who can perform great work and has satisfied customers who provide great reviews. Maybe this place works well for professional designers who frequent this business a lot, know what's available, and aren't bothered by chaos. Personally, I don't want to deal with a business owner with an off-putting temperament.
P.S.: He never emailed me the quotes. I have them on paper anyway. Good...
Read moreThis store came highly recommended by the store where I originally bought my furniture, and the people who recommended them were right. I am so impressed by the integrity of the the owners of Yi's Interiors. I brought in my beautiful chair, which my kitten has been gnawing on. Rick told me that putting arm rest covers on it would not solve the problem and that it would be difficult to get an exact color match. Based on his thoughtful assessment, I decided to hold off on having them do the work. My confidence in this store could not be higher. I saw the work they did on other chairs, and it was excellent. When I need another job done, I will absolutely...

They helped me find Sunbrella fabric that was in stock and the entire project was done faster than estimated. I highly recommend a visit and consultation with them before your next...
