I don't eat at Thai restaurants much since my [Thai] wife cooks it at home, but I just happened to join a friend and his family for dinner at THAIROCK on its opening night and it did not disappoint! Very nice modern theme with hints of Thai culture and scenery weaved in. We were quickly greeted (including by the owner, Nick and the manager), seated and served. The well stocked bar was run by a bartender not scared to put a Thai twist on drinks (like the tamarind old fashioned!). As for the food, one can tell a Thai restaurant's authenticity by the details of the food preparation. Grilled Thai Beef Salad (Crying Tiger) actually had the toasted rice powder in it and the mint leaves to the side while perfectly grilled medium. The Crispy Chive Dumplings were a nice twist to the steamed versions I've had in the past. The Ka Noom Jeeb (shu mai) were huge and came with their house-made sauce. The Chicken Satay was juicy and in big portions. The noodles in the Pad See Ew were perfectly sweet/sour/savory-balanced and caramelized while the veggies were still crisp. The kids got Crab fried rice, which, unfortunately I can't comment on since the they ate it all; however they said it was awesome. Finally, the owner, Nick came to check up on us and send us off. Great experience at THAIROCK. Wish I took pictures but I guess you will have to check it out yourself! Looking forward to trying the rest...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. A group of 7 of us came here for dinner, and it was hands down one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. The customer service was extremely unprofessional and downright rude. When we asked for 7 small bowls so we could share our food properly, the lady serving us rolled her eyes and glared at me like I was being unreasonable. For context, we ordered a fair amount of food for 7 people; it’s not like we ordered just one dish to split. Because of her attitude, we only “dared” to ask for 4 bowls.
Later, when we really needed more bowls, we asked again and were told (very coldly) that they didn’t have any more. The restaurant wasn’t even half full at the time, so either they were lying or they’re simply very poorly equipped.
And then came the worst part — the salad we ordered actually had raw chicken in it. When we pointed it out, the response was again unprofessional with no apology whatsoever.
Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience from start to finish. Between the rude service, lack of basic hospitality, and unsafe food, I would not recommend this...
Read moreThairock Rocks! New Thai restaurant in Rockville just opened and everything we had was very good. I am a professional chef and I can tell the food was made with great care and love. I am always looking for new restaurants in Rockville and try them all. This restaurant pays attention to detail and is welcoming in all aspects that you want in a restaurant; clean, friendly welcoming staff , food presented in eye catching way and great flavor. The food is not just great tasting but I noticed extra attention went into how it is presented which I don't always see in other Thai restaurants. The overall vibe is very good. Menu is large and it all is very appealing. I think it is easily the best Thai food I have had. The owners were present and walking the dinning room with lots of interest in making sure the customers were happy. The decor apparently was brought over from Thailand. I post very few reviews but do so when the restaurant deserves it. I plan on making it my go to Thai restaurant...
