David is the kind of person for whom if you tell him something is broken, his mind will start wondering over how to fix it in the best way, without you asking him... in five minutes, he'll have an idea; in one day, presto, it will be fixed. He's a problem-solver who genuinely likes tackling new challenges, driven and organized.

Our basement had been gutted and left in limbo for over ten years, halfway through a remodeling job. The concrete floor was cracked and uneven, with pools of misshapen hardened concrete that other contractors shied away from attempting to level. David realistically advised us to ditch tile and use Karndean loose lay instead -- then we wouldn't have to perfectly level the floor. We were reluctant to throw away all our tiles, but in the end, he was right. The finished product was a beautiful floor that belied any hint of a nonlevel, ugly concrete floor underneath.

Anything we threw at David, he was nimble and quick to fix:

1.) Re-aligned a tilted slab of granite counter backsplash 2.) Retiled some ugly patches under a toilet 3.) Ground down a rusted, corroded metal doorframe and made the door able to close again 4.) Installed fixtures in a basement bathroom: sink, vanity, toilet, shower heads 5.) Double-checked safety precautions to install GFC electrical outlets in the bathroom, to make sure they were safe for contact with water (we didn't think of this, he did) 6.) Wired basement bathroom lights and installed ceiling lights and fixtures in addition to cove lighting 7.) Did finishing touches with installing baseboard, hooks, painting basement bathroom walls

I can only speak to the quoting process as I did not move forward with Loft Home Services (LHS) for the work I needed.

While some may like having a vendor ask questions about why I'm looking to do the work and the purpose of the jobs requested, I thought the extent to which LHS went was excessive, unnecessary and a bit invasive.

We reviewed the work needed (nothing major, just handyman stuff) and was asked if I would meet with the estimator in a day or two to review the quote. I agreed but had to reschedule our call to the following day. I requested several times that the quote be sent over for my review prior to the call. They would not send it for 'David, the estimator, prefers to present/review the quote in real time.' Not very customer service oriented, in my opinion.

When I finally received the quote, it was a three page elaborate list of things I asked to be done and items that were assumed necessary given the age of the home. There was no itemization whatsoever for any of the jobs and just a final quote of $15,600, for basic handyman work. Outrageous!

Finally, I find it unprofessional when a vendor bashes another, in this case Angi, when the estimator said, "I'm surprised they're still in business, most of the time it's just a scam." Not cool. Ironically, I'm going with the company from Angi as they were very professional, the work is guaranteed and they itemized each job allowing me to financially decision each item.

I am 100% impressed with Loft Home Services. The quality of the work is impeccable and David transformed my kitchen and dining room by knocking down a wall and installing a kitchen island. David worked with me to plan the remodel and had valuable suggestions about things I had not thought about. David gave me an estimate and a timetable and was in communication at every step along the way, which is a rare thing when working with contractors. He cleaned up at the end of every day with a in depth clean up at the end of the project. He was great at problem-solving issues that came up along the way and my kitchen is now BEAUTIFUL and so much more functional. I had used David for several small jobs before this big project (replacing an exterior door, repairing outdoor framing, repairing drywall) and he has been professional and responsive throughout. His pricing is fair and I would not hesitate to call David again for any job small or large. David does the majority of the work himself, and when he brings in assistance, he is there supervising so their work meets his standards.
