I don't enjoy giving a local business a bad rating, but my experience with this gym was unpleasant! My husband and I decided that we wanted to switch from planet fitness to NYF because it was closer to his work.. when we went to NYF to discuss different price options this nice woman assisted us. We asked her about the $10 a month membership and what it included, we informed her that we would be working out at 530am. She stated that we can't do the $10 a month because staff must be present and they get in at 8am. So I asked her if I got the $19.99, could i bring my husband as a guest, again she stated that staff has to be present when bringing a guest (she was very nice when giving this info)so she proceeded to inform us if we wanted to go to the gym at 530am we needed to both purchase the $20 a month membership. I found out after approx 6 month of going there that we could of got the $10 a month membership, I was told by one of the regular members that he can get in the gym 24-7 with the $10 a month membership, So I called and spoke to the manager. He was very nice, but he told me that the women no longer works there because she did the same thing to other members. I asked if we could please switch to the $10 a month membership. He informed me I would have to email the owner. Which I did. The owner stated the only thing he could do is switch us to the $10 each a month... but we would have to pay the $100 start up fee, this is what got me upset!! I already was charged approx $120 too much because management didn't train their employee correctly. I just wanted things to be fair. I wasn't asking for a lot! my gut just told me this isn't right! So for the first time in my life... I wrote to the BBB. They contacted the owner of NYF, but after a month the BBB wrote me and said they didn't get a response from the owner. So there's nothing else that could be done😭 Even though I'm paying $40 a month I just can't step foot in that gym. I have about 3 more months until my contract is up then I can cx.. ( its like throwing money in toilet and flushing it!) About 3 months ago my husband and I went back to planet fitness. I'm just really disappointed on how this turned out! I didn't want any extra $$ or privileges. After I found out we were paying more than we had to. I just wanted management to make...
Read morePalmyra Location only (Not a member at other locations/never used other locations):
Pros- Gym and locker rooms generally kept pretty clean. Friendly / polite staff. Enough quantity and variety of equipment to suit current user volume and aerobic / weight training needs. Price (Currently paying $10/month initial fees, which were average for gyms offering one time membership initial fees)
Cons- Equipment maintenance could be better. There are always a few pads, cushions, grips that need repair, adjustment, or replacement. What's so difficult about the staff inspecting the equipment once a day and the owners getting the stuff fixed instead of ignoring it for monthes? For example, 2 or 3 machines have had their hand grips slip out of position for months now. It would cost the owners next to nothing to reposition the grips properly. Either the owners don't keep spare seat and pads &/or covers or their too cheap to use them. This is either poor management or nickle dime cheap asp owners.
The juice bar prices are outrageous.
The noise some people call music is horrible. It would be better if they just turned that mindless, thumping, way-to-loud broken record satellite radio off. Always wondered who decides what gets played at gyms and what if anything they base their choice on.
Please note that the above Con comments pretty much apply to every gym I've ever been in, although the one at Lebanon Valley College was a lot better but way more expensive.
Quality rating would be VG, if the equipment was kept in better repair. It would be E, if equipment was kept in better repair, juice bar was more reasonably priced, music was better...
Read moreI had a membership there for about 1 year that I had to cancel earlier. I cancel it at the end of January because I wanted it to end at the end of February and the contract says that I need to give them 30 days of notice. I had to pay $50 for early termination and $10 for one month. However, what the termination note does not say, I paid the $10 only for the days to the 5th February (because thats where they normally transfer the membership fee from your account). And that guy terminated me immedeately. Customer service = 0! Unbelievable he did not tell me about it. Also it would have been cheaper for me to kept the contract to the end instead of paying $50 for early termination, but that was my own fault. So if you go there, read your contract thorougly and tell them exactly how you would like to terminate it. Better give them a...
