Before I share my review, please note, should you provide an unfavorable review of this property on VRBO, you can expect a series of attacking emails from the property manager. (See attached) Also, I tried to leave a review on the Happy Crab website but was unable and so assume these were reviews the owner themselves shared (although I suppose it makes sense they would select what they want to show on their site).
This property was dirty and is poorly managed. First, I want to say, this was our third consecutive November in N. Myrtle Beach, during which we've always stayed at least a week. One January, we stayed a full month. I say this because we haven't prior encountered cockroaches on any of our stays, but we did at Happy Crabs Sandy Dunes. The first night we arrived, we saw a giant cockroach crawling into our dogs food bowl. We texted the property management who responded by scheduling a pest company to come out the next morning. This didn't eradicate the problem, which we realized probably would've required treating the units above and below and beside us. Sleeping in a condo with cockroaches made me anxious. In response to our review on VRBO, the management sent us a hostile email telling us it was ridiculous to feel anxious about "a bug." Obviously, cockroaches are not simply bugs. They carry bacteria and disease.
We also found a massive amount of long, black human hair all over the floor, and used their cleaning rags and pinesol the morning after we checked in (as we got in the previous evening) to clean. I'll attach a picture showing how dirty one of the three rags were (post my cleaning). It is hard to imagine how the floor could have been cleaned prior. In his angry response to our VRBO review, the manager said to expect a pet friendly condo to be "hair free" is "ridiculous" to which I'd repond, we didn't have an issue with animal hair. It was the large amount of human hair that bothered us. And second, if he struggles to clean the unit after pets, perhaps increase his pet fee (or use the fee renters already).
When I mentioned this the next day to the property manager via text, he replied with a passive aggressive text.
The water pressure in the master bathroom shower was quite limited, the water never raised above lukewarm, and the tub didn't drain well, resulting in standing water.
There was also structural damage from a leak that went from the living room ceiling, down the wall, and to the floor, which felt soft directly in front of the window. While we are not pet exterminators, friends from the south questioned if the decaying organic matter in the wall might be attracting the roaches. (Incidentally, in the property manager's angry email to us in response to our review, he said he should've known we'd be difficult when we made "such a fuss" over "a bug." Does that mean he expects renters to coexist with roaches without mentioning them?

Read moreI am very impressed with happy crab vacations. They show full detail of what the units look like the unit I stayed in was beautifully decorated. It had everything I needed. They give you great instructions on how to get into the building and into the unit and I love the keyless entry. my beds were made they even gave me starter sets of toiletries bag. They made my vacation. The best vacation even ran into them in the lobby. Randy and Debbie are so great to talk with and they gave me great pointers on restaurants that they loved to go to , and I did go to several restaurants and that was excellent. Are very personal and answered all my questions so quickly. And I love that I can book directly with them and not going to those other websites that will charge me all these extra taxes. And fees. Read moreI have Randy manage our condo. So you know this isn’t a fake review it is Waterpointe 1 unit 902. We renovated the whole thing and took a lot of care to make sure it was beautiful. Randy and Debbie make sure everything stays top notch for vacationers. We had a brand new dishwasher break and Randy had it repaired in 4 hours. A renter accidentally smashed a very large tv and Randy personally purchased another one before the next renter arrived. One thing I really love about them is Debbie and her sense of fun. She organizes all kinds of games like shell painting, bingo games, just a lot of fun things that every single renter is welcome to join. She’s so open and friendly. That’s probably why so many people book with Happy Crab again and again....
