Let me say this off the top! If more places were like Goodfellas, the world would be a better place! In addition to the great food, which we will talk about in a second, I have to say from the start, that the policy of not being able to leave the restaurant without a hug by the owners or staff is not a gimmick, it’s the heart of their restaurant. Just in feeling uncomfortable with such a policy, is why it needs to exist in the world we live in today! Now having said that, I’ve been to plenty of places that I would NOT want to receive a hug from the staff, but this is not one of them!
Being from Phoenix, it is a non-negotiable that we get seafood while on any coast. We started with a basket of hush puppies (the first one is complimentary) and ordered a bowl of their She-Crab soup, which to me was a chowder with crab rather than clams and was delicious. For our meal, we ordered their “choose two” from their fresh catch selection. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallops, while I chose the scallops and crab cake. This came with coleslaw and fries. Our kids ordered chicken tenders and grilled cheese which they both raved about. All four meals, and the soup, were delicious and not over fried or seasoned by any stretch. The scallops and shrimp were sautéed perfectly and had a delicious taste.
Another thing we were extremely impressed with was the fact that despite not ordering dessert, two separate waitresses came over and recommended the original painters ice cream, when we mentioned we were interested in ice cream. How many places do you know that would send you to another establishment for dessert. Having said that, I feel like I have to plug their fried cheesecake. The table Behind us ordered it, and it was the size of your forearm. So many reviews have mentioned this desert, and from what I can tell, it never seems to disappoint.
At the end of the day, if and when we make it back to Myrtle Beach on a future visit, this will be a mainstay and an expectation to visit for future trips. As much as we enjoyed the food, I would come back for no other reason then...
Read moreI really want to love this place. We arrived with a party of three; two adults and one child. We were seated pretty much immediately, which is apparently a rare event because this place was pretty much at capacity when we arrived. The environment is very laid back and relaxed.
The service here is impeccable. It's clear that this is a family establishment and they take pride in their work. Wait staff were very friendly and refills were prompt. Both of us ordered Oscar's Savory Shrimp Sandwich. We started off with a basket of hush puppies served with honey butter and they were heavenly. We awaited our main courses with anticipation.
Unfortunately, the main course was... meh. Don't get me wrong, it was edible. But it was not the culinary delight I was hoping for. The sandwich itself is described as large shrimp with mozzarella, caramelized onions and bacon on a toasted bun with a side (I chose seasoned fries). Executed well, this had the potential to be a home run. The sandwich I received was heavily loaded with toppings, so much so that it was difficult to hold. This is not really a complaint, but it bears mentioning. While the shrimp was cooked well, it lacked in flavor. The onions were not exactly caramelized, more like lightly sauteed and not particularly softened. The bacon was alright, though a bit tough. I wouldn't exactly call the fries "seasoned", either. They were salted well, but no other seasonings that I could see or taste.
All in all, the experience was excellent, albeit a bit of a letdown from what I had hoped for. But far be it from me to definitively judge a restaurant on a single dish. I will be back here, if for no other reason than to give it a second shot. Until then, four...
Read moreWe ended up here by mistake thanks Yelp T.T I googled Lobster Rolls North Myrtle Beach and this place came up. This review was tough to be honest so bear with me. I wish you could give half stars, I might have done a 3.5 We started off with the onion rings My husband got the popcorn shrimp plate $18 with side salad. I got the shrimp alfredo $18 with salad. The onion rings were to die for, some of the best I have had. Crispy and fried to perfection. His popcorn shrimp was awesome. Again crispy and fried perfect. The batter was just salty enough and the shrimp were still nice and tender. It looked like fresh cut fries served with it. They were ok maybe just another couple minutes in the fryer to make them perfect. Here's the stumble. My shrimp fettuccine alfredo. The noodles were cooked great but that's kind of all this dish had going for it. The sauce was on the runny side and the flavor was ok but didnt have the punch a nice creamy alfredo sauce should have. The shrimp were cooked well but had no flavor. Like just steamed in water.l, they desperately needed some flavor sauteed in butter with some salt, garlic or something. It definitely wasnt a meal I would pay $18 for again. One lady that served out table was super nice very bubbly and very conversational which i liked. She took the time to explain to us the history of the decor because i adored the little fish on the wall. There was a second lady that wasnt....unpleasant just not personable I guess would explain it. Overall the trip wasnt bad but I dont know that I would return. I suppose if I was in the mood for popcorn shrimp thatd be the spot but with the way my meal was, I'd be hard pressed to go back and try...
