Great place for hockey! The ice does get a bit choppy by the boards in the corners, otherwise decent ice quality. The only time the ice get beat up, obviously, when coaches run drills, and the kids take chunks out from repetition. Evenings during the week they have men's leagues, pretty quick skate with high level of play, so anything C and below should probably stay away. I've moved and miss NSI! The rink also hosts hockey instruction for adults, hockey moms and dads. The coaches are great. My favorites were coaches Jason and George(also played mens league and worked the proshop)for adult instructional. Jason breaks down the techniques pretty good. George is very understanding and listens well to understand where there player struggles. The maintenance guys were hilarious, great comradely! Studio rink rental spots get filled out quick, but it's probably due to the great pricing. Unfortunately the pro shop closed their doors, not sure if anyone else moved in there since spring. All in all, in comparison to the other Chicagoland rinks, this is definitely a...
Read moreNot a good first picture to post but it shows that they have basically no lights on in a parking lot with tons of kids running around accident waiting to happen. If you spend as much time as we have at this rink in the past few years it's pretty disappointing to say the least. The ice is constantly a mess it's pulling back along the wall and doesn't even stay frozen for the most part. The facility is almost always dirty and you can't find any staff if your life depended on it. Considering all the new rinks in the area opening this would be my least favorite by far. It's hard to imagine that the rink really is not even that old.
The rink does have potential but someone would have to come in buy the place and start over with New Management and completely gut it in my opinion. I hate poor reviews but if you're around the hockey rinks as much as we are you can do so much better than this.
It does have a little bar that's nice overlooking the rink but with covid...
Read moreI really like this facility. The small studio rink is a nice touch. There's a proshop there as well. The main rink has a high ceilings and a big center ice scoreboard. Dont know of any other rinks on the Northside with that. There is ample seating for fans, looks like some kind of 2nd floor bar viewing area(haven't been up there). The rink is well lit which as a goalie i really appreciate. The main drawback is that the lines on the ice are so faded. Ivr seen refs using markers to mark faceoff dots so that there in the same spot every time, and offsides is impossible to judge. Need to melt the rink down and repaint if this rink is to be taken seriously, especially if competitive youth teams are playing there. I want to say its some kind of safety issue, not sure. Just seems like the rink maintenance is very cosmetic in nature. If this rink wants to get to be a premier rink in chicagoland (which I think it could), the ice has to be the...
