Great location and centrally located if you have reason to be in Genview, Northbrook or Northfield. Parking is easy and ample. From the outside and the lobby, this hotel appears to be be perfectly fine and what you would expect of a suburban Sheraton.
It was my husband and myself in our room. We stayed a Wednesday to a Sunday. We were in town for a family wedding. We had a wedding block rate, but chose to upgrade to be able to use the 5th floor lounge for breakfast and cocktails.
We had several types of family events and therefore, we had more clothes than the average, one night
business traveler.
This hotel DOES NOT HAVE CLOSETS OR DRESSER DRAWERS, it instead has a very small wardrobe/armoire that is designed to accommodate a business traveler with one change of clothes. As a result, we had to live out of our suitcases for four days.
As for hanging clothes such as cocktail dresses, suits (or anything longer than a shirt for a child or shorter person, you were unable to use the wardrobe to hang them because there was only of full length space 8 -10 inches of space. The shorter side of the wardrobe (meant for shirts or skirts) while larger (18-24 inches) was so short that your shirts were "puddled" at the bottom.
We asked the front desk if they could bring us a second wardrobe (there was space in the room) or perhaps, just a mobile wardrobe rack. We were told that the only solution they could provide was some space in the lobby behind the front desk.
I guess they thought we wanted to come through the lobby in our robes, and get dressed behind the registration desk every morning and evening?!
As a result, we had clothes hanging from the wardrobe doors and on the back of chairs or anywhere we could creatively find a space. We lived in a disorganized mess for 4 days.
My favorite part was the carpet. I travel regularly for business and pleasure and don't remember the last time, I was as grossed out to walk barefoot on the carpet. I have no clue as to what it could have possibly been because several other members of our party reported the same experience, so it wasn't an isolated spill of something sugary or sticky that hadn't been properly cleaned, but bare feet would stick to the carpet. I fortunately had a pair of flip flops with me. When you walked on the tile bathroom floor after walking on the carpet in your flip flops, the flip flops would stick to the tile and make that sticky sound when you picked up your foot. Yuck.
I didn't bother reporting it because I had absolutely zero hope that anything would be done or any other room would be different. Another member of our party, in a different room, layed a trail of towels on the floor because they didn't have flip flops.
Do not expect to get a restful sleep because the walls are so thin that you can hear your next door neighbor cough, sneeze and snore. You could hear full conversations.
The door slamming factor was world class (you know how hotel doors are designed to slam shut). The constant sound of slamming doors either all night from various guests or all morning from the housekeeping staff was mind numbing.
Due to the great, weekend wedding rate (I suspect), the hotel attracts guests that are using the rooms to party, not sleep. To add to our perfect experience, on the Friday night of our stay, in the room directly next door to us, a group of people entered the room at about 11:00 PM and proceeded to party until the next morning at 8:00 AM when they departed. The noise escalated as the night continued and at one point someone was in the hallway, yelling obscenities to someone in the room while kicking the door. This noise and behavior went on for 9 hrs and would only stop for 30 minutes following a call from the front desk.
I called the front desk FOUR times. One time I was told that they could move me (at 3:00 AM). Their solution was to remove us, instead of removing the offenders?!?
You wouldn't think a suburban hotel in the heart of Chicago's Northshore, tucked in between million dollar homes and Whole Foods would attract people who are looking for the "Spring Break in Daytona" experience, but be warned.
On the positive side, the bed was comfortable. Of special note, was Carlos, the bartender - very nice, funny and a pleasure to see.
I will add that, the manager Bradley, at checkout removed Friday night':stay from the bill along with the up charge for the executive lounge for two of my three rooms (who never utilized it because it closed too early in the morning). I did appreciate this, but don't think I should have had to have made this request when he was fully aware of the situation prior to me explaining and making the request.
The only conclusion I can draw is that this area does not have enough competition. There were three different weddings using this hotel for their guests.on this particular weekend. The hotel was crowded and bustling. I'm not sure why there isn't more completion especially since their is a major, corporate headquarters within...
Read moreHotel- Sheraton Northbrook (Northbrook, IL) Date- 9sept-12sept 2021 (3 nights) Overall: 5/5. Excellent. This was among the best Sheraton experiences we have had. This cozy, modern, & clean hotel is located in a serene North Shore area village and boasts a friendly, efficient, & professional staff.
Rewards Club Recognition- 4/5. Very good. We were verbally thanked for our loyalty, and our room was upgraded to a “Club King” room, which included access to the Sheraton Club Lounge. We were assigned welcome amenity points and given meal vouchers for on the days that the lounge doesn’t serve breakfast. We felt like valued guests.
Staff- 5/5. Excellent. Before our arrival, we called and spoke with Francis about our pet; she was friendly and knowledgeable. “Mo” checked us into the property, and he efficiently explained the property. Penny, at the reception, helped us when we extended our stay; she was very professional. Overall, everyone we interacted with was very kind, knowledgeable, & courteous.
Property Appearance & Maintenance- 5/5. Excellent. The renovations really make this property shine. No outstanding maintenance items were evident. Exterior- 5/5. The exterior is debris free, and the hotel is well branded. Interior- 5/5. The lobby and corridors are clean, and the baseboards, walls, & carpets are scuff-free. All lighting was operational, as were both elevators.
Accommodations- 4/5. Very good. We were assigned a “Club King” room, and we were very happy. The room was virtually spot free. The room was appropriately appointed, and the furnishings were in good repair. The bed- & bathroom was exactly as advertised on the hotel and chain websites. A stain was present on the wallpaper in the corner, and there was evidence of something like a water leak above the window by the ceiling; otherwise, the room was spot-free. The bedding was super comfortable. We would choose this room type again.
Housekeeping- 5/5. Excellent. Our room was unquestionably clean. The bedding was fresh, unwrinkled, & blemish free. The carpets were immaculate, as was the bathroom. All toiletry items, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, etc., were all provided in a supply adequate for the length of our stay. At no point during our stay did the housekeepers disturb us while the DND sign was in place. Each time we passed the housekeepers in the hallway, they were pleasant and eager to ensure we had everything we needed.
Pool/Gym- 4/5. The fitness center and the pool were both available. Breakfast/Meal Options- 5/5. Excellent. In addition to the breakfast service being offering during the week in the club lounge, breakfast and dinner were both available in the restaurant downstairs. Beverages were available in the club lounge as well.
Laundry- not evaluated.
Computer/Printer/WiFi- 4/5. WiFi signal was not strong in at the end of the hallways, but while connected, streaming was smooth & uninterrupted.
Other- At the time of our visit, signage to indicate that masks were mandatory were everywhere. Guests and employees...
Read moreI stayed at this Sheraton as a spot to work remotely for a couple days.||The good:|- I was so impressed with the furnishing when I walked in. It felt very high quality and comfortable.|- The staff were so, so genial in the lobby. They were working hard to put a smile on my face, especially who I believe the manager was. It really stood out.||The not good:|The bathroom lighting was downright dim. There was no mirror with enough light to apply make up (not an issue I've ever had at a hotel). ||The food situation! It was bizarre. Nothing that I remember was said about food when I arrived. There was a sheet on my desk with a full menu, and a phone button for in-room dining. Nowhere listed any hours of service. So I called at 10:05 the first morning for breakfast, and they said it closed at 10:00. Bummer. I ordered breakfast delivery from a local café. The delivery wasn't left at my room like it has been at other hotels, it was left on a delivery table in the lobby. Alright I think, fine, I'll go down and get it and do better tomorrow. Later that day a little before 5, I tried to order room service again, and was told it wasn't open for dinner yet. Still a bit frustrating but I grabbed a snack from the lobby on the way out.||Because I was staying on floor 5, I saw some guests going into some kind of club room, and they explained that for a certain price you could get access to a breakfast buffet. I don't understand why this was some sort of secret but I filed it for future reference. It maybe helped explain the $10 cold cereal on the restaurant menu. But I don't appreciate having to reverse engineer any of that. ||Anyway, so I call in the next morning for breakfast room service. It goes to an answering machine. The voice message lists out restaurant hours. Something like 6 am - 11 pm! I'm immediately much more frustrated about hours not being listed anywhere and about the two times I've called in and they've been closed. I leave my order, then I get a call shortly after and give my order again. And then I'm told - they don't do room service! Never mind how many times I've called with the in-room dining button on my phone. No, instead, I can order it to go, and go downstairs, again, and bring it up to my room myself. I do this reluctantly and get back to my meetings. I do not receive a call that it's ready. I do, however, receive a call 30-40 mins after it's ready confirming I still want it. I explain I'm in meetings. When I finally get a break I go down and bring up my cold breakfast that isn't as good as my previous delivery but is at...
