This white, tall women with long hair, works at lab front desk was very rude, unhelpful, and not welcoming at all! I took my special need 3 year old child to his dr. appt and to get his blood withdrawal after ( since the lab was downstairs and looked fully staffed) This lab front desk lady gave me a number and told me to wait. I asked her if it’s going to be too long I’ll just grab the stool sample kit that the doctor ordered and leave and I will come back for the lab work some other day( he already had his doctor visit an hour earlier and he was getting over stimulated and anxious) She replied “you’re gonna have to wait anyway to get your stool kit ready” I said ok, thinking someone gonna grab the kit for me, it shouldn’t take more than 10- 15 minutes. I was wrong! I waited for 35 Minutes!! They skipped my number and called about 8-10 ppl after me. I went back to her and said since I have already waited this long just to get stool sample kit might as well get the lab done for him. she gave me the dirtiest look and like whatever. So I go back and wait trying to comfort my child who has severe autism thinking they gonna call me back at any minute but nope I was wrong. I felt they intentionally ignored me and my son probably because either they don’t know ( lack of training) or don’t want to (lazy) to deal with a special need child that at this point was throwing himself on floor crying and ready to leave. I went back to her and asked her to give me the stool sample kit that has been sitting in brown back behind her for the last 20 min. She handed to me without even looking at me neither apologizing about the long useless wait and all the inconvenient that it caused. She passed me the bag and immediately Turn her back on me and acted like she was looking at some files. I was beyond disgusted with her her rude, unprofessional behavior. UofM needs to do better on training their front desk staff. We’re not begging for services. We are paying patients. We need to be treated with dignity and professionalism or at least acknowledge special circumstances and have empathy!...

We have been patients of the Michigan Medicine Northville Health Center since 2018. After a long wait to be seen as new patients, my family enjoyed good care for a time. We had doctors we liked. The center is nice and modern but the check in/out process is tedious and the staff is often not very courteous. Also, if you are being seen by a doctor that practices in the pediatrics side, you're basically trapped sitting in a room with lots of kids. That can be really upsetting during flu/cold season when you're a well adult and having to sit for 20 minutes with a lot of sick kids.
Something they don't tell you is that MM doctors move to other locations often and you have to start all over again if they move far away. Sometimes they will simply change the provider on your appointment without notifying you - this happened to me twice. My daughter had to switch doctors 3 times in 1 year.
My husband and son have seen the same doctor all along but now that doctor (Dr C James) wants to focus on teaching and will only see patients once per week. That does not allow for comprehensive care for his patients.
Michigan Medicine did not tell us this. We found out when they rescheduled my new patient visit from Jan 2022 to June 2022. This appointment was made in April 2021 when the doctor I had to switch from made so many medical errors on my record I couldn't trust their judgement.
MM doesn't seem to think any of this is a problem. Trying to find another (competent) doctor at Northville Health Center that accepts new patients is impossible. Find care elsewhere so you have consistent care.
Also, their call center is centralized. So GOOD LUCK if you want to speak to someone. You'll need at least an hour to get in touch with a live person. Their website is impossible to leave comments or seek support unless you want to talk specifically to a provider so patients that are looking for help will not get it unless you want to spend a good portion of the...
Read moreDr. Colleen Gardner is excellent at making a bad situation even worse.
Our main OB at Michigan Medicine has been working on other projects and hasn’t been able to see my wife for all of her appointments, so we got stuck with Colleen for some of the visits. She’s been a terrible mix of inexperienced, inflexible and dismissive. Her bedside manner is truly awful. There was a noticeable lack of empathy and compassion, which is crucial in any medical profession, especially in obstetrics where patients often feel vulnerable and need reassurance.
Our last appointment with her was the worst of all. She had a student shadowing her so her need to project authority and competency was over the top. We requested a simple ultrasound to make sure the baby was still in a breach position before attempting a procedure to move her, and she absolutely refused to do it, citing that it was not the “standard of care.” Clearly that was a ridiculous reason (the ultrasound machine is next door, no one is using it, it will take you 30 seconds, it is not an invasive procedure, she wasn’t behind schedule), so I had to absolutely demand that she do it and told her that her behavior was unacceptable and unprofessional. After continuing to press her, she told us that the reason wasn’t the standard of care, but that our (excellent) insurance might not cover it. At that point I immediately told her that cost wasn’t an issue for us, and called her out for gaslighting us. When I reiterated that she should have just told us that the insurance might not cover it instead of telling us no and that it wasn’t the standard of care, she was offended and made a snippy comment.
Colleen truly should not be a doctor, and she definitely shouldn’t have students shadowing her. I get she’s ambitious and wanted a prestigious job, but she should have picked a career where you can be incompetent, unresponsive and arrogant without any consequence. Michigan Medicine has plenty of good OBs. This isn’t...
