I’ve been to more Michelin star restaurants than you have lived days in your life. This restaurant is third to only Thomas Keller’s Per Se, and Eleven Madison Park.
On a serious note, this was one of the better experiences I’ve had in a long time. The food was very good, seems to be authentic, though I’ve been to Korea exactly 0 times. The portions were large, a lot of food for your money. But the service was amazing! For a couple reasons.
We were greeted and seated immediately. Our order was taken and some food was in the table in less than 10 minutes
Team effort: we had our waitress but were assisted by 5 different members of the staff through out the meal. At no point were we left wanting and that is the effort of the whole staff to make sure their guests have everything they need. There’s a “not my tip not my table” mentality at a lot of establishments and it was refreshing to see service at the top of mind.
This one is for the parents. THEY WERE SO INCREDIBLY WARM AND WELCOMING TO MY CHILDREN! I have a 1 y/o and a 3 y/o boy and if you’re a parent you know how stressful it can be, bringing kids to a restaurant. They interacted with my kids, the smiled and made jokes with them, they even at one point came to sit down and talk with them. Such nice people. In a lot of cases you feel that young kids are simply tolerated at restaurants and not much more. It was truly so nice to have an environment and staff that made our family feel welcome.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. You all should go, spend a lot of money,...
Read moreKimchi Box Plus is a self-service Korean BBQ-style spot where you order from a tablet and the raw ingredients are brought out for you to cook at your table. It's an interesting concept with plenty of potential, but unfortunately, the execution falls short especially for the price you're paying.
Expect a long wait if you order any prepared food items they typically arrive toward the end of your meal, which can feel disjointed if you were hoping to eat everything together. Asking for rice? Brace yourself you might get a dirty look, and it’ll take about 10 minutes to arrive, which is baffling considering it’s a staple side.
The food itself is good and fresh, which helps make up for some of the chaos. But service is minimal and disorganized. Don’t expect much attention from staff unless it’s time to settle the bill.
Speaking of the bill, there’s a hidden 1.5% fee added it’s not clearly disclosed anywhere and only becomes visible if you ask for a printed receipt. To top it off, the tip screen is aggressively presented, starting at 18% and going up to 25% a bit much when you’re cooking your own food and doing most of the work yourself.
Kimchi Box Plus could be a standout if they ironed out the service quirks, improved transparency, and aligned the experience with the prices they charge. Right now, it’s a bit...
Read moreWhen I first came across this Korean restaurant, I thought it was going to be a take-out restaurant only. The restaurant is embedded within a strip mall. From the outside, it appears smaller than it actually is. I enjoyed the simple decor inside. I really don't care for restaurants that have extremely low lighting. I enjoy a restaurant where you can also see the sunshine. The complete atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and comforting. The staff was friendly, prompt and patient. The food, excellent. We had the BBQ for two which easily could have been shared with three. As usual it comes with all the small dishes. To accompany the BBQ, we had Soon du boo( Spicy tofu stew ), and Japchae ( noodle stir fry ). For all the food we had, I felt it was a fair price. What you see in the picture is exhaust vents from the BBQ's at each table. You cook the meat at your table by yourself. Your server will assist you of course. A novel experience. Will I come again. Absolutely. I am looking...
