Great chain of gyms overall. I wish that they would expand to Central Long Island.
The Norwalk location loses a star for not having tanning, meaning that you have to fight I-95 traffic to go to the one in Fairfield.
It loses another star for enforcing a sneaker policy when you are doing arm and chest exercises. That's what prompted this review. The only machines you really need sneakers for are the cardio machines that require you to lift your feet completely up off of the tread surfaces, like treadmills and stairmills. I appreciate that you are doing part of your job, but think, too.
There is zero toe protection against crushing in sneakers. I deliver and unload freight for a living, and understand protective footwear. It's just as easy to break a toe in sneakers as it is to break a toe in sandals.
This level of enforcement seems more like corporate bureaucracy, or possibly a concern with a marketing image. People who are working out have to dress to fit a formulated image that says they're at the gym, and it's total baloney.
I'm going to soil a spotless pair of sneakers that I keep just for using my erg machine at home. Unless you are buying me a new pair, don't reply to this review.
If you reply anyway, blindly trying to save face by defending irrational customer interactions, then that's just terrible customer service, deserving of an even lower score.
P.S., This review was written in a state of irritation, and I would like to add that some of the staff here are very friendly if you talk to them.
As for the cancelation policies, unfortunately, that's part of the business model of gyms. The average subscriber goes maybe 6 times, and is locked in for 2 years. That's how the gyms can pay for enough 5 thousand dollar machines for everyone and keep a lot of staff on the payroll. It's hard to gauge how much gravy there is, and it is sort of crooked, but it's industry-wide. I was at worse gyms on LI, one of which cost twice as much, and they were both pretty tenacious, insisting that you had to cancel in person if you moved. If you've moved from LI, it is a huge pain in the backside to go back just to cancel a membership.
Penn & Teller did and interesting episode of BS on gym memberships. The only way to keep it from being a scam is to work out there regularly, and get your money's worth.
If they didn't have guaranteed revenue, they wouldn't be able to cover their huge overhead, so, no gym is likely to change this model.
The music is very depressing. The first two songs in a row since I got here today were musically uninspired EDM tracks, about people whining about God because of their love lives and talking about dying. Not great music for...
Read moreI can only speak my experience with their customer service. Gym is nice, and a lot of equipment, but their customer service is absolutely horrible. To the point where I do not wish to come there any more despite me still paying for my membership...
Back story: I signed up in June because they were having a no enrollment fee special and I wanted to get the ball rolling. I had also signed both of my children up for unlimited Edge Kids which I instructed to the person that signed me up (Same Zack) that I only wanted ONE MONTH of edge kids because we were going out of town for 6 weeks and then they would be starting school so I would not need it.... I reiterated this multiple times and he kept assuring me that I was all taken care of. I specifically said "Ok Sam, I'm all set? Im not going to get charged for a second month of Edge Kids?"... "Yep - all set!" (or whatever words of affirmation he used in agreement)...
Fast forward almost 3 months later, my husband comes to me and asks me if I recognize these charges to our account and sure enough, I have been charged $120 for subsequent months of edge kids ($20 for 2 months plus + their $30 facility fee PER CHILD) and at this point I'm pretty annoyed but whatever, I had high hopes this would be a simple misunderstanding and all would be resolved without issue (because thats good customer service right?)... NOPE it has been an absolute nightmare. I have spoken to many managers and Sam himself who (of course) acted completely dumbfounded (how convenient) when I confronted him with this saying, "Well, ma'am, if you wanted to cancel you would have needed to fill out the cancelation form...", Well OBVIOUSLY... Wouldn't it have been your job to make me fill out this form while I'm telling you that I only want edge kids for one month, instead of telling me "yep - you're all set!" ?.... I left there feeling completely taken care of and instead all you have done make you very untrustworthy.
I have been on the phone with them for WEEKS trying to get this resolved with absolutely no luck what so ever. I keep getting told "I'll have to call you back" and never receive a call and guess what, I'm STILL getting charged for edge kids to my dismay.
It must be said that this is the first negative review I have ever written about a place.... thats how angry I am. If I could rate them a zero, I...
Read moreLove this place. I’ve been going here for over a decade my experiences have always been exceptional so far. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who made the registration process smooth and welcoming.
The gym itself is spacious and well-organized, with a wide variety of equipment that caters to all fitness levels. From cardio machines to free weights and resistance training equipment, there’s something for everyone. I particularly appreciate the abundance of space, which makes it easy to find a spot to work out without feeling cramped, even during peak hours.
One of the highlights of Edge Fitness is their group classes. They offer an impressive schedule that includes everything from high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to yoga and spin classes. I’ve participated in a few classes, and the instructors are knowledgeable, motivating, and create a fun atmosphere. It’s a great way to stay accountable and meet other members.
The facility is consistently clean and well-maintained, which is something I really value. The locker rooms are spacious, equipped with showers, and always tidy. It’s clear that the management takes pride in providing a pleasant environment for all members.
Another aspect I appreciate is the sense of community at Edge Fitness. Everyone I’ve encountered has been friendly and supportive, making it easier to stay motivated and engaged with my fitness journey.
Overall, I highly recommend Edge Fitness Club in Norwalk for anyone looking to get fit in a welcoming and well-equipped environment. The combination of great facilities, diverse class offerings, and a positive atmosphere makes it an excellent choice for fitness enthusiasts...
