Bad customer services and bad Costco practices. Yesterday we bought two citrus trees at $19.00 each, indicating fast sale. At cashier, it was $26.99 each. We caught the mistake, and it was corrected after some maneuvering. Imagine if customer is not vigilant. Then we noticed sales tax was added on the fruit trees, which shouldn't based on our experience. I then talked to two managers at least that are what they claimed, named Ramone and Sherrie, who said that is Costco policy of adding sales tax on fruit trees based on California law. I showed them California Board of Equalization Regulations 1588 regarding seeds, plants and fertilizers, which clearly states no sales tax on fruit trees. Then they said Costco policy supercedes whatever. They said if you don't like this Costco policy, then don't buy it. These two self-claimed managers continued to escalate their hostilities. If these are the people working for Costco, and Costco continues thinking that they are too popular and too big to fail, it will be like Sears and the likes. I also simulated buying an apple tree from Amazon, and it showed no sales tax applied. Imagine how many loyal customers have been ripped off by Costco. I also remember many years back when Costco was selling discounted items but sales tax based on the original price.
After writing the above, I reviewed the receipt carefully and I see the problem as follows: when scanned at $26.99, the item is called Citrus Tree and there is no "A" after $26.99, indicating no sales tax. When the same item was re-scanned at $19.00, another so-called manager called the item 27 GARDEN, then an "A" appears, indicating sales tax. The problems of bad customer services are still there as follows: These two clown idiotic so-called managers, RAMONE and SHERRIE, as well as other employees kept insisting it is Costco policy to add sales tax to fruit trees. They even called me tax cheater. Bad attitudes, such as "if you don't like this Costco policy, don't buy it", "you can always hire your attorney to challenge Costco", and on and on. I got ripped off, and probably other customers as well. This is not one Costco employee making a mistake. As me and my 2 children walked in today I had my Costco card out but noticed no one going in was being stopped and decided to put it back in my bag. As we walked in alongside a crowd of Caucasian people, Paula yelled in our direction and singled me out asking for my card. I asked Paula why she chose to stop me and not anyone else(as there was several other white people walking by), she proceeded to lie to my face in a very defensive and rude tone and say "everyone gets checked". Another older white women who was standing next me was frightened by Paula's yelling and believed she was speaking to her instead of me. As the women attempted to pull out her wallet, Paula stopped her and said she was fine and waved her on. Paula then turned toward me and pointed me out in front of everyone yelling I could not come in until I showed her my card. My children were frightened and uncomfortable, Paula completely belittled and humiliated not only myself but my 8 year old daughter and 9 year old son in front of everyone in that store. The only other people who were stopped during our visit today were people of color! When employees are "randomly" stopping people and 100% of the people they stop are people of color, it is not random it is RACIST. After reading other reviews, I see Paula is not the only racist employee at this store. Customers should not be made to feel unwelcome ESPECIALLY when you have to pay to be a member! PLEASE don’t bother coming to the tire center, I went to get my front tires replaced and was lied too, I found out the tires I ordered online we’re received by somebody in this staff and marked as installed (not the case) it was installed on someone else’s car! This locations staff are so rude. Then later on I was told that I couldn’t get a refund! I waited more than 30+days… Then I had to spend hours on the phone and in person a total of 6+ hrs just to finally receive a refund (which takes 5+ business days to receive the refund) someone told me my only option was to drive 50+ miles and pick up the tires myself, then drive back and bring the tires back to them, the audacity! (Also told I’d have to pay out of pocket then they’d reimburse me) I was done! I went to this BIG O tires in Novato and what a world of a difference! The customer service at Big O tires vs Novato Costco was refreshing. - WARNING - this Novato Costco lies to you’re face and all the staff have terrible customer service! You should just try to call and speak to someone in this tire center best of luck to you, you will get hung up on! They will take you’re money and run you in circles. Also with excessive wait times. So do you’re self a favor avoid Costco’s cheaper tires and just avoid the issues from this disaster tire center.
