I will never shop here again. The manager Karen at the Novi location was not just rude but actually unkind. I’m hoping to believe she was having a bad day because the way she was treating myself and other customers was not normal. 2 hour before closing she was already pressuring us to get out of the store and refused to help me when I asked her any questions. It was a very strange situation because we didn’t have any confrontation. She just chose to be very mean. It was honestly just weird . Sometimes you don’t get helpful customer service in retail, but this manager was purposefully trying to be rude to customers. It was disappointing after to going to Plato’s closet in both Novi and Ann Arbor. These stores are amazing. The girls there were so helpful and gently good, kind people. Not because it was their job and they had to be. But because they wanted to be and they take pride in their job. The clothing and the amount of high end clothing far exceeded what Clothing Mentor had. I am starting to wonder if most of their clothing is all online. The things they had in their store were not the types of clothing that they said they purchased and sold in their company info section on their website. Plato’s Closet gave me 150$ for my trade ins and a lot of it I thought I would be donating. Clothing Mentor didn’t take anything and all of the clothing I had was new and a lot still with tags. Every item I had was a brand they had listed on their website. My thought is that they are just not taking any clothing right now do to their inventory. Don’t waste your time! The manager is so horrible that she actually hurt my feelings . I take pride in being good to people and she went out of her way to just be unkind. I had to remind myself ( and kindly remind her ) that maybe she was just having a bad day and that I understood because I have them too. I can see this place going out of business soon. PLAT0’s CLOSET has a much better business model from what I can grasp as a customer. They have remodeled and expanded some of their locations even recently. Their clothes are all current and the organization is impeccable. I would def make the drive to the Ann Arbor store even if it’s a little hike. They have great product. I’m guessing a lot of the students take their clothing there. It is a more upscale area and they do stick to their brand list. I just read the review below me Return policy and I just wanted to let everyone know that they do not accept any returns. Plato’s closer allows returns for a full refund for seven days. I want to add on that. I just received a call from The general manager, Tony, who was Amazing. She was so thoughtful and so apologetic and does not Tolerate that kind of behavior from any of her team members. She was not at the store the day of the occurrence. Based on our phone call And how wonderful she was I will definitely Be giving the store another shot! Thank you, Tony. If anyone shops at the store, definitely ask for her and thank her for her wonderful...
Read moreGreat for buyers, not for sellers. Brought in some designer items because one of the associates (she was blonde and very nice) I had spoken with the day before told me that they give sellers 50% of the selling price for designer items. The associate I brought my items to (shoulder length brown hair, looked to be in her late 20s), so that she could look through them, immediately turned condescending as soon as I told her that I had designer items to sell, including a Chanel bag. My first complaint is that I feel like I was being shamed by this associate for being young and having designer things to sell. I don’t understand why the associate would behave like that because it seems like the store is trying to grow their designer merchandise as it brings a lot of people into Clothes Mentor. It’s bad business to make people feel bad/single out people for having designer items when those are things that bring revenue to the store. My second complaint is that I was offered far too low for my designer items. I was offered $5 for a $300 For Love and Lemons dress (brand new with tags!), $5 for a $600 Alexis dress (worn once), and $900 for a classic Chanel bag (in amazing condition) that was plated with 24k gold, which they don’t do anymore, the new Chanel bag’s hardware tarnishes. I don’t know if this was store policy, or if the associate that looked through my items was trying to screw me over. Offering $5 for a $600 item is rude frankly. One of the reasons why I think she might have been trying to screw me over is because she keyed in both dresses as tops. I don’t know if that’s normal, but it seemed like she keyed them in as tops so that she didn’t have to give me the dress price, which I assume would be higher. Also, a concerning point about Clothes Mentor is that they have the associates “authenticate” the designer items. They do not have a professional do it. There are some very convincing fakes out there, and associates who have no experience with authenticating designer items should not be doing so, in my opinion. There is too much room for error as selling counterfeit designer items is illegal. Anyways, if Clothes Mentor is trying to lowball you, sell your items online or through selling apps. I ended up selling my Chanel on Poshmark for $2k and my For Love and Lemons dress for $100 on Mercari. I would have lost a lot of money had I let them...
Read moreI, too, took 4 lovely dresses and 2 raincoats/ trench coats plus a Coach leather bag in on Friday June 20, 2025. They were on hangers. My husband was lugging them in behind me as I entered the store first. We were stopped in our tracks and told they were no longer taking in items that day. (odd, since website said all business hours) So we came in the next morning and were told that items must be in bags when they had clearly seen the day before my items were on hangers and chose not to mention that. I ran out to Walmart to buy garbage bags. As I was taking the clothes off of the hangers I handed them to the intake girl and she proceeded to stuffed these lovely dresses and coats in a garbage bag!! They didn’t make an offer on the spot as stated in their website instead telling me to look for an email. The email arrived some hours later and said I must come back in 24 hours to get the offer or call them. I called and was told that I had to come in anyways. What a joke. Long story short they “passed” on all items stating wear, age and style. I asked about “age” and she stated items must be 2 years old or less!! No where was that stated on their website. This is the worst business model I have ever encountered. Poshmark here I come!! If I could I give...
